I am a "team leader" for the 3 day...my team is called The Electric Boobs.
So, if anyone wants to walk and join my team, feel free. I'd love to have some other people!
I'll update on me next week after I see Dr. Mo and the GI.

Brandi,
Don't be embarrassed! I haven't ever done it either! LOL...but, I figured that I had this surgery to help me make lifestyle changes and THIS is a goal of mine...before surgery I wouldn't have ever been ABLE to do it...never would have even considered it.
The breast cancer 3 day is a 3 day, 60 mile walk to fund the Susan G. Komen research. I work with a nurse who is a breast cancer survivor and I am a nurse in an OB/GYN office and see too much breast cancer in general. That is my "WHY" for doing it...along with the fact that I feel like I CAN do it!
I have signed up for and am heading a team for the Washington, DC walk. It takes place October 3rd-5th.
You can get more information on www.the3day.org
Feel free to join me! I would love for my OH family to join me!

Electric boobs, eh? Hmmm...I LIKE it. Ok, lemme have a chat with Mike about it...he's a bit skeptical...concerned that either I won't be able to raise the money or I won't be able to do that much walking. Oh ye of little faith! I mean come on...just hours after my stroke & I was on my stationary bike? I'm pretty darned proud of that.
You know what? I'm just gonna do it! This is not about him...it's about ME & my sister, & all my unrelated sisters, & ok, brothers too cuz men DO get breast cancer too. I know Mike...once he sees that I'm serious, he'll support me. And so what if maybe I can't walk the whole thing? I got no shame in plopping my electric boobs onto a golf cart & hitching a ride to the next check point (read that they'll do that). So, yeah, ok, how do I sign up for your team, Lisa? I am sooooo there!!!!
I am so sore! My whole body is tense and spasing. I can barely get to the bathroom without almost falling, even on crutches. Sitting here getting dehydrated because I'm scared I'll have to pee non stop. I have no upper arm strength so it is killing me to walk with crutches, hubby is working night shift so it is a lot of drama.
When were you able to start putting more pressure on your hurt knee (even if needing crutches)? I think the numbing block they did is worn out now.
I had surgery on a Thursday afternoon. When I went home (4 pm) I told my sis I felt pretty good and was going to stay downstairs. She made me go upstairs - good thing because the pain set in extremely fast and I never would have made it up the stairs later that evening. I slept most of Friday. Sis woke me up every hour so I'd exercise the knee. I ventured downstairs for a very short while on Saturday and Sis left Sun morning. While she was here I only walked to go potty; she brought me food and drink. The key for me was exercising the knee (flex and stretch). The dr stressed that the exercise was most important but I was allowed to bear weight as I wanted or could.
I also used a walker instead of crutches per dr's recommendation. Crutches take some practice and don't give you the same stability and confidence. Luckily I was able to get 2 walkers so I had one on the 1st floor and 1 on the 2nd floor and I would sit on my butt to go up and down. I was pretty mobile within the week, but still VERY painful. I got thru WLS on my own but I was so glad I had sis with me for knee surgery. I also got thru WLS without pain meds once I got out of the hospital. For knee surgery I took those 2 percoset EVERY four hours for 4-5 days then went to 1 percoset every 6 hours to make sure the pain didn't prevent me from exercising the knee. Dr was very generous with the prescriptions!
