So I am taking my wife to Budapest in February for her birthday. Back story: I have had jobs over the last decade where I had to travel a bunch so I have an obscene amount of frequent flyer miles. I was lucky because I was almost always upgraded to first class so my big but could fit. On this trip we are flying coach (only cabin available-yuck!) but I am excited that I'll be able to fly without an extender. Has anyone traveled internationally post-op? I am not looking forward to all the meds/vitamins I'll have to haul with me (although it's better than hauling all the gut I had). Has anyone had problems with customs in or out? Just curious. Thanks!

Several of our vitamins are store bought not through perscription.  To be on the safe side go to your doctor with all the vitamins and names and have him write a prescription stating you need to take them.  Some customs are not bad but others are really anal about medications.  This has saved me more than once and my father whom travels for a living several times. I have travled several times last year out of the country . I had no problems at all . I even managed to take a protein bullet through customs and TSA .. it is food .. they started to treat it as liquid .. and it is .. but it is protein ..  I would in your carry on make sure you have an extra supply of vitamins .. make sure they are in the same container you purchased them in . If you do not have a medical id card .. you may want to make one .  http://www.medids.com/free-id.php This way you can put on their you are a Gastric Bypass Patient , you require daily vitamins .. and MUST STAY HYDRATED . This helped me tremendously !!  Always remember to pack some high protein snacks .. as you may not be able to get them on board . Hope this helps .  Nat

By all means take food with you for the plane.  On my trip back home from CA I had NOTHING TO EAT because they ran out of food trays!!!  Even though I told the attendant that I am wl patient & diabetic, she ignored me completely.  So don't rely on the airline to provide your food. Have a safe trip & lots of fun & don't forget pictures to share when you get back.

Hugs!
Ann
