Daily Inspiration - Communicate with your family

Communicate with your family.

Sometimes it's depressing to be reminded of the old adage: You can pick your friends, but not your family. You may need to teach your family to contribute to your long-term WLS success if they don't warm up to the idea naturally. Some family members may not understand the level of change required in your life. While others may think your surgery was too extreme.

Try to be patient and gentle with them. Explain your WLS lifestyle to them as clearly as you can, and make your two-way communication ongoing.

Action for the day: Today, practice communicating your needs to your family, while also listening to their concerns.

Yeah I talk WLS with my wife and she looks at me sideways, like the rest of my family. She wants me to try again so I am. She is a great cook and makes me my favorite, ziti, carelized onions, meat, lots of cheese, Yummmmmmmmmmmmmm. I can't resist. I ate a ton. Today Im back on the protein shakes and rabbit food. But its not really supportive. Now the bedroom set we're gonna finance this weekend, now you're talkin her language. I could care less but understand the deal is really good. Come March I'm making my own decision and getting it done.
