Virtual Travel - week 2
Well I of course just can't seem to follow the rules so I am going to change things just a bit this week. If there are any new people out there who would be interested in joining in to our game, here is how it works. Ann & her hubby came up with a great idea to pick a starting city or location & a destination and use the mileage to help us with our cardio workouts. You just use the mileage goal to make sure you get that # of miles in for the 7 days (Monday - Sunday) to reach the virtual destination. You can walk, run, ride a bike, use the mileage on the Eliptical or what ever you can to get those miles in as long as it is exercise, sorry no car riding allowed. Last week we took a 14 mile trip through Ann's hometown in Hawaii to our beach destination.
So our trip for this week. We will start in the beautiful Cacapon State Park of West Virginia (just pretend there is now snow or cold weather) with a nice group barbeque and head out to the hot spring baths & spas in Berkley Springs for a nice relaxing soak in the hot springs & then massages. This is a 15 mile trip. The trip starts tomorrow.
Berkley Springs?? OMG! I love that place...it's soooo beautiful. Though I've not actually EXPERIENCED the Springs, themselves, I HAVE gone antiquing there. Ya know...if we planned waaaay ahead, maybe we could get a group of us together & actually go there this year? Just a thought.
Can't wait to get started. Thanks Courtney!
Ooops! I DID forget to mention the climb UP Pali Hwy, huh? Gee, & the Pali Lookout is one of my favorite places too. Whenever a tidal wave threatened us, that's where everybody would go...UP the mountain! And the view from up there is amazing. There's a legend about the Pali too. There are 2 tunnels you have to go through to get to the other side of the mountain. Legend has it that a half-man/half-pig lives up & if you attempt to go over the Pali at the stroke of midnight with any kind of pork in your car, your car's engine will die, forcing you to stop & it WILL NOT RESTART until you set the pork outside for the creature. I can't tell you how many times me & my friends, & no doubt countless others, have attempted to try it, but then chickened out. Spoooooooky!!!!
The Pali is also the site of the final big battle between King Kamehameha I & his troops against other tribal chiefs that refused to join the kingdom.
If you go up to the lookout on a windy day, the winds blow so strong that you can actually lay into the wind & it will hold you up. It really does too...that one I didn't chicken out on. Only bad thing is if you aren't paying attention, that gust could suddenly go away & you can find yourself flat on your face! Seen THAT happen too...lol. Last but not least, there is an old story, don't know how true it is, that before the stone wall was put in place, a guy on a motorcycle attempted to commit suicide by driving off the cliff. The winds were so strong, that it blew him & the bike back up, preventing his suicide attempt. I suppose it IS possible.
Ok, so we're off to the springs tomorrow. BTW, we got inclines on THAT trip too! LOL
I'm so glad you're with us Joe!!!
