I tried

Well after some trying from Commonwealth Surgeons, St. Mary's hospital I found out today that my surgery is a no go. I was approved on the 7th of Jan. by Medicaid to get the surgery and there was a committee meeting last Tuesday at St. Mary's to determine if I would be able to go under the knife, which none of the surgeons showed up anyway. I needed to have the surgery by the end of the month, because my insurance is switching to Medicare. So now I have to go through the whole process of 6 months of blah, blah this and blah, blah that. Then hopefully we can summit the papers to them to get approval. However I am not upset by it much because I felt like it was being pushed through to quick. So I'm going on hiatus on here for awhile, because I simply don't have anything to add on the subject. I will however pop in once a month to check on everyone and give you guys updates on how things are going. The good news of all of this is I've lost 55 pounds in the last 3 months. I look forward to losing a lot more before we try again to be in the absolute best shape I can be in. I will talk to you guy later.

Sorry to hear things haven't gone your way, hang in there, it's worth fighting for!!! It's not an easy thing to go though and if it was everyone would be doing it, it took me many months about 7 and being turn down 2 times before I got it done. Fight for what you want.  Hope you keep trying. Jackie

Good am, Its good that you aren't too terribly upset about this however, I hope it makes you more determined. The ways & means of insurance companies these days are really sad, ridiculous & unfortunate. I hope you won't stay gone. I hope you'll come here, read up, let us know how you are doing & share the process you are going through. It will truly help/benefit others to know what you are facing so that when they are facing the same battle they know what steps can be/will be taken. CONGRATS on the 55 lb gone in 3 months!!! That's wonderful! Do NOT give up & keep your face around here! All best...

I am sorry things did not go the way you had planned.......... the 6 months of supervised dieting ets may not have to be redone if you can prove you went though this once etc  Please don't give up - this is worth fighting for. Also stick around here too - you have a good opportunity to learn as well as ask questions and contribute. I honestly feel that many people do not reseach this or learn enough pre-surgery and this results in confusion about what to eat post surgery and it often gives them a hard time. I was refused by my insurance, the first time, as they did not cover it and it took me 7 months to get a different insurance that did. But during that time I read every book I could get my hands on, joined two support groups and learned as much as I could before the actual surgery. This way I went into it pretty much knowing what to expect for the surgery, what I could eat and not eat and how to eat things and drink my water, take my vitamins and protein - so all I had to concentrate on was recovering from surgery..... it made my life so much easier. So you have the opportunity to do the same .............. hang in there.... Jackie

Sorry it hasn't gone through this time but if you were feeling rushed, etc. then it wasn't right for you at this time.  Keep fighting for you and it will happen as it is supposed to.  I agree with the others though, don't leave us too much.  Stay on, research, learn & arm yourself with as much knowledge & preparation as possible.  Best to you and keep us updated.

Yes,  hang in there. I went down the path once before I had surgery. My insurance company said I had to do 6 months of supervised loss and then they'd consider it. Of course, they also covered nothing related to obesity, so it all would have been out of pocket. And of course, I knew that if I were successful they'd have told me I didn't need surgery because I was doing well on my own. As others have said, the insurance situation in this country is ridiculous. I was lucky when my wife changed jobs her insurance was far more inclusive and I got on her policy. The best thing you can do is to keep the positive attitude. Great job on dropping the 55 lbs. that you have. Keep trying to make those small lifestyle changes that have gotten you this far. Regardless they will help you and will really set you on the right path if you do get to surgery.

If you are still considering the surgery, than stick with the board. The information from those post-op here is so worth the time and effort of just checking in once a day. You learn about complications that can develope, vitamin regimins, protein intakes, foods, so many things that are ever changing and different to each individual and that could be you one day and at least you will have info to fall back on. Besides, your another handsome mug around here, and we'd miss you. PAM

I can always count on ya'll for support. I'm not leaving 100%, just not getting on as much. Thanks for all your kind words. I'm not giving up, if it just takes a little longer than I wanted, it just does. L8R On
