It Has Come To My Attention

It has come to my attention that my ORIGINAL post yesterday to Bonney's thread title "This Day" was taken out of context.  While everyone has their points of view, there are certain subjects that should just not be discussed in a forum such as this - and as adults, we all know why. My ORIGINAL post to her was a simple, please be respectful to other's beliefs.  Nothing more...nothing less.....Why did I post that?  Because I have had several discussions with others off-line who have been offended by the religious banter that occurs on this board.  And let me state for the record......................I AM NOT OFFENDED BY THE RELIGIOUS BANTER. But....I AM offended that a response was posted, to which I have EVERY right to view and respond if I felt necessary, but I have been blocked from viewing.  If you want to have a discussion on this topic, that is one thing, but to throw your words and not allow me to defend myself is another!  We ALL have a right to our view points, but again....we do NOT have the right to offend anyone on this board.  And YES!  That goes for me, too.  WHICH...I will refer you back to my original post where I made it quite clear that I did not want to offend ANYONE, but felt that it was not right for others to be offened as well. The reason I posted my ORIGINAL response on the thread was not to single Bonney out, but to make the point to EVERYONE, that we ALL need to be respectful to each other and ensure that we do not offend. Now...recently, I viewed a post on this board that was in fact pretty nasty and directed to a particular person.  However, it appeared that the original poster received alot of support - the topic of that post was on being a BULLY.  Where was the backlash that maybe that topic should have been directed to that particular person?  How is THAT topic any different than my ORIGINAL post of remembering other people's beliefs?   So....once again....let us ALL be mindful of each other's beliefs.  It's GREAT that everyone feels comfortable here - I think that is GREAT! - But, remember that not everyone deserves to come here and be alienated or walk away with hurt feelings........ PS:  An NO!  I do NOT feel like this board is for my own personal daily messages.  I have had MANY people tell me that they like these messages, so I will therefore continue to post them as they are meeting their purpose - INSPIRATION.

You know I really tried hard not to get into all of this discussion but feel I really have to say something.... I understand how you both feel - both you and Bonny regarding this topic.  This note is not aimed at you two in particular - but meant as an appeal to everyone. We all need to understand  that discussions on religion or politics can cause wars - we have seen this throughout the  world - and indeed I am seeing signs of it on this board. Let's remember the purpose of this board - it is a Weight Loss Support Board. We are all here to support each other in our weight loss struggles, regardless of our beliefs - not alienate each other. And that is what  I see happening here .......... I am very respectful of people's beliefs  - but I know that not everyone on this board is a Christian and I can only imagine how they are feeling right now. We do not want to get into a big religious fight on this of who is right and who is wrong..... we want to be there to support each other - no matter what we believe. There are religious boards on OH for people to discuss their beliefs and they do help people in the way they are intended. Many of you are members of them. We should try hard not to offend each other and to be careful in what we say. We do not want other people to be turned away if they need help because they do not have the same beliefs.  If people get offended they can ask OH to have posts pulled because they are offended - we do not want to have this group moderated..... for the most part we are all like family and families do have their squabbles.......... So while we are all very proud of our on faiths - and we all should be - I think we just need to be a little mindful of overdoing it - or making complete threads about it as a challenge.  Everyone on these boards has an important contribution to bring to the table - and we all want to help and support each other - not ignore posts because they have a certain person's name or belief attached to them... I am not trying to offend anyone with this post - please believe I am posting it because I see this escalating and want to prevent that if I can.  I care about everyone on this board and want everyone to be successful and to get the support from each other that I know we can all give.... There is nothing wrong with asking for a little relgious intervention for people that we know need it - but let's just be careful of offending those who do not want it.  We should be tolerant of everyone on here....religion, creed, color etc... I hope you all read this in the spirit it was meant - and let's get back to the important business of supporting each other though our lifelong journey of fighting obesity! And I am not in charge of the board or anything like that - I just want us to stop this squabbling before it gets worse.... Jackie

Jill, thank you for posting this, since there may be confusion with how the other threads crossed each other. I agree that your original request was appropriate and that Religion and Politics are subjects that wreak havoc on any message board (unless specifically meant for those topics). I personally am not offended by posts with a Christian content, but do agree that it needs to be kept to a minimum and not detract from the original pupose of the board. I agree that you should not be alienated by expressing yourself in a respectful manner. Disagreements will occasionally surface on a board like this and it's important that we strive to work through it in a direct and constructive way.

Jill-- Just letting you know that I'm not offended with what you posted or what Bonny posted. Playing advocate here--this is my own opinion-----  If a post bothers us personally, then I believe we then have the right to  a) reply to the poster by either a PM or post  b) move on without comment This board is a great source of information, full of caring well meaning people. I truely treasure each of you

Amen to that Jen! I will not even pretend that I have read all post associated with this topic. In my honest opinion if someone of another faith or none at all speaks to me in POSITIVE light with their religious backing that is NOT going to offend me. Point is they believe what they want to believe and they are wishing me NO harm! Different opinions only BECOME a problem when someone decides it's worth the chance of DRAMA for asking someone to LIMIT thier show of their belief in order to opease them. And might I add that the asking of the limitation is just as Offensive to those of us with a christian background! AS LONG AS IT IS IN A POSITIVE LIGHT AND NOONE IS BEING RUDE, OR MEAN OR OUTRIGHT MORALY WRONG then where lies the problem? Now with that being said I certainly am NOT taking sides on the right or wrong side of the arguement or poster of the board. I just think that filtering who you are is a hrd thing to do and an offensive thing to ask, no matter how nicly it's put. Im sure that Jill didnt mean to offend and certainly didnt want to start any kind of debate but of all thing I believe it's silly to have an issue with something that should be tolerated on a basis that it is not intentially degrading of others. Alot of people who are strong in their faith rely on that throughout every moment of every day and the same way we dont want to offend people we dont want to feel fitlered or uncomfortable with what are responses should be or what are topics should be. Asking for prayers seems to be fine and non offensive to others ( as it shouldnt be ) so I dont know why that imparticular post would become offensive to anyone. I mean if I seen some topic that was buddist, I prolly wouldnt read it because it;s not my faith, but if I did and then it offended me, do I really have the right to say anything about it? I think this has all gotten a lil out of hand and we should try and move past it with NO ill feelings tords anyone on this board because quite honestly regaurdless of religion everyone on this boards seems to be really supportive and that's all that matter's. But that's just my opinion and we all got em. And I am not speaking directly to anyone on this board or to anyones specific beliefs. Im only joining the conversation as someone who enjoy's having positive support on this forum REGAURDLESS of who or what religoin it comes from :) By the way...please ignore misspellings...typing fassstttttttt on someon elses keyboard :) Brandi~
