Good Morning, Pam..... Can't speak for those who had lap, but if you are open RNY, you will come home with drains.  I had mine for I think about 7 days. WOW!  To think back, it seems SO long ago..... Do NOT worry!  Everything will be fine....

only 7 days???  ugh Dr.Clark makes you keep them for 2 weeks now and it was horrible for me.  Very painful and I couldn't feed myself protein through it like they said I could, tried but it didn't stay in no matter what I did.  I'm a wimp with pain so I had to stay on pain meds until they took it out, my body didn't like the foreign object in it.

Good am Pam, I didn't come home with any drains. (I had LAP RNY) My hospital stay was longer so I had mine removed the day I came home. Other folks (my dad & a few friends) had one stay in for a few days nearing a week after coming home. Don't worry! Its a GOOD thing! All best....

I had open RNY but my doctor does not use drains.  I was home in three days and feeling pretty good.

Hey Pam - Ask your doctor/surgeon if they do... that's how I got some of my questions answered.  I had it LAP RNY and I had no drains when I came home, they removed it right before I left the hospital.   No question is silly, the more you ask the more you can prepare yourself.. email or call your surgeon or PA or coordinator, I am sure they can tell you. Good Luck! Amanda

No matter what you're going to have to make sure he doesn't jump on you. Most surgeons won't let you lift anymore than 10 lbs. for a period after the surgery. The worst thing that could happen is that you lift and tear your pouch. I have a 1 1/2 year old daughter and the first thing they said is no holding her. It was hard, because you don't think about it, but even sitting on the sofa holding a child strains the stomach muscles.

Nope, No drains for me! I was feeling pretty well and back to work in 13 days. My girlfriend with the same surgeon, no drains, was back to work in a week and a half! we were easy ones! Another friend of mine spent only one night, that was new since my surgery or I would have gone home early too! We all had mini open gastric bypass and are doing very well! McLean
