Took my first class on giving myself insulin, it went real good and they feel that some of my problem is my thyroid levels is too high. And that is causing my sugar to go high and will go back Friday for the long class where I will learn nutrient, and how to treat low and high sugar. I take my first insulin tonight. Learn alot this morning and will keep learning and working to get this taken care of. As far as my dad I told him this morning that he will not be coming home that the nursing home is his permant home now. He did not take it to good but he will adjust and the social worker helped me get my step-mom to understand and keep telling him he truth. This was the hardest thing for me to do. I have cried so much doing it but I know that this is the best and he will be taken care of for the rest of his life. All I can do now is trust in the Lord and follow his wishes.

I am glad to hear that you are getting things taken care of, and that you are taking care of yourself, even in light of everything you have going on...I know how tough that can be.  So, hats off to you!  I am sorry that things are so difficult with your Dad.  I hope and pray things settle down for him, and for you, in the very near future. Hang in there... Hugs, Cindy

Thank you Cindy that means a lot to me. I feel now that he knows that he will be there for now on that he will just have to deal with it and they are going to work with him and her on that. I am proud to say that for the last week or so I have been taken my meds like I am suppose to and will get better.

I really feel for you, I was insulin dependant during my pregnancies so I understand what you are going through. After the first couple of times you have to shoot yourself, so to speak, it gets easier, kind of second nature, and you can buy the needles so small now that you can hardly feel them going in. I am terribly sorry you are going through this but hopefullly soon you , your numbers will lower to the point that you can began the oral medication again. As for your father, I wish you all the luck with his recovery, and you are right, honesty is the best policy. Best of luck, Pam

Thank you the first night was not so bad and I think that it is going to work and I will get better. I went and saw him today and he seemed in better spirits so all is well for now.

Pat, I am really proud of you for taking this and running with it!! - it is not easy to give yourself shots at first but then it is just something you have to do to get under control..... Nutrition is important too - and you should make sure they log all of this because they will tell you to lose weight too and you can use the 6 months towards your surgery if your insurance requires it... As for your dad - i agree being honest with him is much better in the long run - then he can stop expecting to go home all the time...  it is what it is and eventually he will see that.... so don't be too upset - you did the right thing... Good luck to you - you are making progress... Jackie

Thank yo Jackie and it is hard to accept the fact that I had to go on insulin but that is how it has to be for now and I will follow what the doctor wants and get myself back to good health. I am really happy that I stopped all the lying to my dad and saw him today and he was in a good mood.

Pat, I too give myself shots.  It is hard at first but it does get easier.   It is very hard to tell a loved one something like that.  Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers that you get your diabetes under control!! Anna
