I have already had my surgery consult with Dr Wiedower here in Winchester, but I was wondering if anyone here used him or the Bariatrics program at the Winchester Hospital and how they would rate it. Thanks!

Don't want to frighten you but do want you to be informed.  I don't know anything about the current program in Winchester, it is realitively new.  I know that they did have some problems with their old program (5+ years ago or so) and stopped the program for awhile.  Definitely look into to it and do as much research as possible on the surgeon, his program, staff & hospital.  You have the right to ask about the history (success statistics, complications, death, etc).  Here is a link to his information on here. http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/bariatric+surgeon+p rofile+James+Wiedower+jfr.html

Don't want to scare you either, but I heard people were dropping like flies over there in Winchester, that's why I chose to go to Charlottesville, Dr. has 20 plus years of experience in bariatric surgery. That is something you need to look at, his experience in the type of surgery you are looking at like Courtney said. You don't want a doctor who has only been doing this for 5 years when there are much more experienced doctors out there. It is serious surgery. Best of luck, Pam

That's weird, I heard alot of positive things and have already had my consult and really liked him and all of the staff.  One of his nurses had the surgery herself and has mainstained her loss and looks great.  Since I work in Winchester and drive 50 minutes to work every day, I needed a Dr and support system there.  I only weigh 207 right now so I not very high risk anyway and will probably have a pretty simple recovery.

They had to stop the program due to the insurance their hospital was using.  It wouldn't cover the bariatrics program.  After they got that worked out, Dr Glenbot and Wiedow trained out in California to turn the program there around and it is now a complete Bariatric center.
