Support group In or Near Prince William County
I had surgery on Jan 29 and have been having some issues that I never expected. Mainly with lack of movement on scale. The scale has become my mortal enemy! I was never really one to worry about the numbers but it seems like no matter how hard I try I can't keep it off my mind. And I thought food was my enemy! I have that nagging thought in the back of my head saying what if it doesn't work or you fail AAHHHH, I know it is not a race to see how fast I can lose I just thought that after 3 weeks it would be more than 5 pounds, Anyway I would really like to find a support group close to my home or possible catch a ride with someone that lives in my area and attends a group even finding some people in my area that might like to just get together and talk on a regular basis. Any suggestions or people out there in my situation? Thanks for reading and I look forward to responses.
Hi April,
There is a group that meets at Potomac Hospital in Woodbridge. Here is a copy and paste from an email I got about it.
February Support Group Meetings Reminder:
Hello everyone! As promised we are now offering two support groups per month! We want this to be set up so you can attend both if you wish, or simply come to the group that starts at the most convenient time for you. The hopes is that we create a more intimate environment for discussion and learning.
The Support Group meetings for February are taking place Thursday, February 7th @ 6:30pm and February 21st @ 7:30pm at Potomac Hospital. The meetings are being held in the Education Center (part of the new building), on the Garden Level. There is parking available in the back of the building - next to employee parking.
You can call the Virginia Weight Loss Surgery Center

Hi April. I am in Manassas & I attend a group in Fairfax. The one group you were given a link too is a good & there is one that meets in Stafford (Jackie runs this one & I am sure will post to you with the info). Not to many other ones on that end of the county.
Congrats on your surgery & welcome to the board. So you are right at 3 weeks out with a 5 lb loss. Not too bad. A few things to remember, sometimes right after surgery, people experience a small gain (fluid) from surgery & then it takes a bit longer to really start losing. Also right at 3 weeks a lot of people experience a stall. Your body just kind of stops losing (a lot of times this is when inches start to drop) as it adjusts to the new changes. This is normal and can happen through out your journey.
A few questions for you. How are you doing on your protein & water intake? It is so important to get all the protein in so that your body doesn't go into starvation mode & start holding all it can. Water is key too. I noticed in the beginning if I wasn't getting in enough water my loss was slower. Are you exercising? Again another key point in this journey.
Don't be too worried about failure yet. You can do this. It isn't easy and it does take hard work & dedication to use your tool.
Thanks , I heard the one in Faifax is good . I was doing fine but my family members are the ones that keep on asking I had dicided that I am just going to tell them that I am not living fro or by the scale. I am doing really good on my water intake but I struggle with the protein I only get about 40 -50 and I need to get it up to atleast 70 so That is what I have to work on. I have been walking since the day of surgery non stop and I am doing cardio 3 times a week. I have always struggled with getting my weight down the only time I lost alot was when I was using phen pen but let me tell you I was like a freaking crack head non stop moving and never eating. I did this more for health than anything and somehow I keep letting people make me forget that. Well thanks for responding.
Please do thanks my email is [email protected] I am going to the website now . Thanks April
