.Hi everyone... It has been several years since I have been here.  I had rouxny gastric bypass on May 2nd 2003.  I lost 155 lbs.  Alot in my life has changed since I had bypass. The most recent is I had a baby.  She is 5 mons old now.  I have gained some weight back now and am working hard to get back to my prepregnancy weight.   I have about 20 lbs to go.  I really have no side effects from my gastric bypass and am having a very hard time losing the weight.  I go to the gym.... watch fat and calories....and have even resorted to taking Hydroxycut.  Can anyone give me any tips?  Thank you for any advice you can offer :)  BTW my old screen name was StephN~VA

Wow, you are only 20lbs to go to get to pre-pregnancy weight, that is wonderful. I would stop taking the Hydroxycut and just focus on my vitamins, exercise, water and protein. The weight will come off. Not overnight, but it will happen. Good luck, you sound like you are already motivated but if you need more motivation, think about bikini season coming up! Good luck, Crystal

Think about it...you only have 20 lbs. to go. Not that long ago you lost nearly 8x that amount. This will be a cake walk in relation! My advice would be to focus on the exercise. There is no better way to peel the weight off in general, but it'll help your body rebuild while you lose the lbs. I am proud of you for asking help. That's why we're all here!

Thank you... I just don't understand why I can't get this weight off.  I gained forty pounds with her *sigh...... She was definitely worth it. I'm just frustrated because I am working my tail off at the gym.  I am working on the elliptical for 15 mins and running/walking on the treadmill for 45 mins  every day.  I have really started to get addicted to  being fit and enjoy the feeling of  completing a hard work out. I just want results already... lol & really regretting those night time binges of ice cream during pregnancy. lol

I would definitely like to talk to you further about your experiences -sounds like we have pretty much the same lives.  Do you have AIM?  PM me and I will give you my screen name.

Good am, I have BEEN there for sure! I gained 45 lb with my 2nd gal after WLS and have a bit to lose myself. Putting things in perspective though I've had 3 very serious medical issues spring up after having had her; one alleviated in late 2006 (was on steroids for SEVERAL weeks causing almost immediate weight gain), the 2nd alleviated in 2007 fairly early on, and the last alleviated (so far so good type deal) in later 2007 Nov. with surgery after 2+ years of meds, treatments, poking, procedures and more.  Its nearing the end of February and honestly I am just NOW starting to feel & see better results and the weight loss is beginning again. Its been frustrating and even heart breaking at times but we have to face the challenges we're given head on. One thing I want you to realize is that your gal is 5 months old. You have a good 7 more months before most folks bodies (docs claim) recover from a preggers journey. Now, its not to say you should sit around and wait for the 7 months to get here. However, it IS to say your body just as with WLS went through a MAJOR change and it needs time to catch up. I've been there with pushing myself but it only makes things worse.  My advice is to seek nutritional help whether it be through the nut and your OB's office or the one at your surgeon's office. In addition, changing up what you eat and drink can help as well. Your body needs lots of protein, fruits & veggies along with limiting all the things it just needs in smaller quanities. How about your vitamins? Are you getting in what you need there? I don't know about you but I ended up with low blood sugar and had to begin incorporating some carbs into my diet while preggers. I was also high risk and yet another culprit was being on bed rest from Jan to Apr. Evaluate your exercise plan and incorporate your little gal into as well. Its amazing how much more you'll get involved with when she is too. Pushing her in a stroller even at the mall really gets the blood flowing. Nora is almost 3 years old and I STILL push her at the park in the stroller up & down hills and paths and honestly its one of the best medicines. You can PM to chat more if you like. All best.....

WELCOME BACK!!!!

Ok....go back to basics...protein first...protein last....protein in between (haha) - 100+ grams daily.  Get your water in (80 - 100 ounces daily), and of course limit your carbs.  I found that for me...50 - 75 grams was perfect with my lower intensity workouts (ie:  running 3 miles or less a few times a week and weight work). You have a WONDERFUL tool, you just need to be reminded as to how to use it is all..... Use fitday.com to log everything you eat, you physical activity and your weight.....monitor everything.  Be accountable..... And of course...go back to your support group meetings, or hang out here for support!   And CONGRATS on the new baby!

Hey girl!  I'm glad your back and looking for support! First off, congrats on the little one!  Second, you have had wonderful progress since WLS!  You have already taken off half of your gained back baby weight and I think that is fantastic!  Remember that in addition to your new body since weightloss, you probably have alot of different things going on since becoming a mother.  It will take time to get back to your pre-baby self.  I think what Kat said should be very helpful to give you a good timeline of when doctors expect things to be back to "normal". I would suggest maybe a few extra exercise session with the baby.  Like Kat said, walking or jogging with a stroller is great exercise and that extra 30lbs or so of pushing is like doing your cardio and weightraining at once (to me at least!).  Maybe you should treat you both to a jogger stroller and find a few parks around town to go to? Also, take a hard look at your diet and water intake, if you notice a long stall, give your nutritionist a call and see what things you can do to fine tune it and see if you see any better results. Overall, just remember how far you've come and how many wonderful years you will have with your child that you may not have had if you hadn't lost the 155lbs!!  Take out an old picture and remind yourself of how improtant you were to yourself to have donw what you did and how successful you have been.  BIG HUGS!!

Thank you so much for all your support.  It is still a bit cold to be taking my little Ali out in a stroller (besides the mall) but I am looking forward to a break in the weather soon.  I am probably not getting 100 grams of protein -actually nowhere close... how do you all do it?  I always struggled with that... my hair never got thick again after WLS.  Off subject- does anyone know how long it takes before my posts are immediately posted (since I am new it says it needs to be approved by a moderator)?  Thanks Everyone.

I had the same reaction to the amount of protein some of the veterans here get in!  I do the recommended (by my doctor) 50-60grams but no more.  I'd be sucking down shakes all day if I tried to meet a 100g goal.  I really should at least add one shake to my daily intake and see how it helps me. I did not realize that there was a moderator for this group?!?!  Hopefully after a few posts you will be put on the okay list or something?  I'm not sure how that works.  Until then, I'll be on the lookout for your posts, even if they are lagged a bit.  :)
