Just curious on how long it was before you guys were able to get back to normal activity after RNY. How long were you out of work, etc? Thanks, Penny

Well of course everyone is different. But for me, I was in the mall walking two days after surgery. And I was back at work and walking on the treadmill 7 days after.

I think I was out of work (teaching) for 4 weeks.  I began walking two weeks after my surgery.  Hope this helps.

I was off work for 2 weeks and started exercising  at the gym (no weights) at the end of the first week. I could have gone back to work (desk job) the second week, but I enjoyed the time off and liked being able to snooze in the afternoon.  I was well-rested when I went back to work.

Good am Penny, I would definitely listen to your body! Each of us is different. I had RNY on Wed, came home Sat and was walking Sun around my house/neighborhood and by one week walking every day several times a day. I returned to work 4 weeks to the day after RNY. I had considered sooner but I also knew that was the "oh my gosh I'm bored" thing and knowing my job required some strenuous activities.  All best...

Hi Penny!  I took 4 weeks off of work, by 2 weeks I felt pretty much ready to go back but to be honest if I had tried I probably wouldn't have been able to do a full day because I did tire easily.  It did take that full 4 weeks to really feel great and then at about 3 months out I did go through a spell of being very tired.  I have talked with others & it seemed pretty normal as they went through it also.

Penny they all have given you all good time frames. But it will be left to your Dr and you. All of us are different and our body's heal different. And providing we dont have compications which for the most we dont. So Id go by what the Dr says and he usually dosent send you bac****il after your first follow-up visit which is 2 weeks and in most cases could be 4 depending on how busy the office is so you will have to listen to what your bosy tells you and depending on the type of work you do. Good luck on your surgery. And  keep the questions coming.

I had a very easy time (had open RNY 5/22/07).  I began walking on the day I returned home from the hospital - did about 1.7 miles with a neighbor and walked nearly every day during my immediate recovery.  I took 4 weeks off from work - I have a desk job but travel/fly a great deal.  To be honest I could have returned after about 2 weeks, but my dr. was offering the 4 weeks and I was enjoying my time at the pool .  I did nap in the afternoon and felt a bit tired during my first week back - but I also flew to San Francisco for meetings that week...so that could have contributed.  Listen to your body, take the time you need to rest and recover...you'll be happy you did! Hugs, Chele

Thanks all. This really helps. I was just hoping that after a couple weeks I'd be somewhat "normal". Sounds like most of you are stating that. Thanks, Penny
