I plan on having my WLS in March 08.  In 1-2 years, if I need to have plastic surgery, will insurance pay for it? Cassandra

Typically the answer is no . Unless you are Super Morbidly Obese . Have documentation of terrible rashes, boils and skin conditions, the insurance company will not even talk to you .  Your pannus , ( the skin where your belly laps over your belt line ) Most times needs to hang atleast 2 inches below your pubic area .  So many people here have fought the insurance companies . I was fortunate , or less fortunate to have a hernia in my stomach area . My WLS fixed my hernia - and did an anchor cut adomnioplasty . My insurance did pay for it , as my doctor deemed it medically necessary .  There are a few here on the boards that Medicade paid for their pannulectomy's . They have a different critera . These folks had severe back issues and pain .  I would never tell you not to try . But most cases are turned down .  I am self pay for all of mine other than the TT .  Best to you .. and Congrats on getting a date for your surgery .  Tink

Mine didn't pay for it.... I had to out-of-pocket all the expense.  It's worth it though.
All you have to do is smile and she smiles back.

Cassandra though I am one who has Medicaid they did NOT pay for everything there was still a big chunk Im paying out of pocket for, And I had 2 surgeons letters as well as my PCP letter and pictures. So just wanted you to know that in some cases I know of one case Medicaid paid for one of my friends TT but I think she  had a hernia, I had a Panniculetomony done and will have to have other out of pocket surgery later that It depends on the cir****tance if they pay. But Im paying over 1/2 of my surgery out of pocket. But it was worth it to me to get that  excess skin removed from the pannis area. Keep good notes an records as well as pictures.
