Vitamins

So I have a question...... I assume we have all been instructed to take the same vitamins every day. Right?  Are there certain brands that are better than others? I take: -2 multivitamin (I'm still taking prenatal since I need to finish them up) 1 morn. & 1 night -1 A & D -1 B12 (250mg) I take these too because I worry about osteoporosis and anemia (I'm always borderline anemic since WLS) -1 Calcium (Viactive pill form) -1 iron Any suggestions that I could approve on?  I would like the best ones that would optimize weight loss, give me more energy, and replenish hair growth. Thanks everyone...

Good am Steph, Yes, I would venture to say we've ALL been instructed to incorporate vitamins in our daily post-op lives. Its been trial and error on my end with vitamins. I am anemic and dealt with SEVERE anemia for several years. In a nutshell, a lot of the problem has been alleviated and things are certainly improving greatly. I'd like to stress checking with Maya (nut at Commonwealth Surgeons) since I see you have Hutcher. She's WONDERFUL about vitamins and is well versed in our needs. Also, putting in here to make sure you are following up with your bloodwork and such even more so than the testing done by your OB follow up. Here is what I take and the types: 1 prenatal w/ iron per day - Vitasmart Prenatal Vitamin (Walmart) (talking with Maya on whether this is the BEST one or not) 1 B12 per day - 1000 mcg Sublingual - The Vitamin Shoppe 1 Cod Liver Oil per day - Nature Made/Nature Valley (Walmart) 2 Vitamin C chewables per day - Kirland's (Costco) 2 Caltrate 600+D chewables per day - Walmart I am no longer taking additional iron!!!!  I hope this helps and as always be sure to follow up with your doc/nut! All best....

I agree but I take the Calcium Citrate + D w/ Magnesium (cvs) I also take 1 Biotin 1000(mcg) walmart- 1 Hair Skin & Nails Life Fitness walmart only because I have had issues w/ hair falling out because I cant do the protein shakes, But I would also request you go to your surgeon for his advice and what he feels you need by your bloodwork because we ALL are going to be different and you being a Anemic you would take Iron and in the begining I did take extra Iron and we all know w/ that then you need the stoole softners. So Id get the Dr's advice. Good luck

How do you get your protein in without the shakes?  Are you actually able to eat your daily amout of protein?

Thanks for your input.... Yeah I need to schedule an apt with the great Dr.  I haven't been in over a year now.  It is just so far is why it keeps getting put off.  I live outside of Charlottesville so it takes me a little over an hour to get there. I know I know.... make time. I 'm honestly a little afraid they will fuss at me for gaining weight though...I hope not but... Thanks for telling me what you take though. Back to laundry *sigh....  and lunch yippee! hahaa

Believe me they would rather see you that no visit at all!  They need to know how you are doing okay and if not what help you need...... also make sure you ask them the same questions you are asking here. I think when we all do not do our visits as originally planned we all fear the worst and sometimes we need to make adjustments to get the best from our nutrients. Look them straight in the eye and say you have come for your check up!!  They may say something about your weight gain or may not  - are you happy with your weight loss or want to lose some more? Either way, they should be able to help you - and should be happy to do their job!  Good luck! Jackie
