Coral Calcium vs. carbonate vs. citrate
So I found myself in the calcium aisle of the
Vitamin Shoppe (insomuch as the Vitamin Shoppe has *aisles*) the other day, when I ran across a bottle of (liquid) coral calcium. On the side of the bottle, it said, "here are your options, carbonate (which in the opinion of the bottle as well as most WLS patients) royally sucks, citrate, which is marginally better, and their own coral calcium which is SUPER FANTASTIC. If I were selling something, I'd say it was the best invention since sliced bread, too.
BUT -- has anyone used this for a calcium supplement? Does it WORK for us? If it's got better absorbability (is that a word? :) ) than citrate, I'm in, but I was not impressed with the almost Billy Mays-type sales pitch that I was getting from a BOTTLE.
Thanks for any help that's out there...
(still asking questions at almost 2yrs out, so I guess that means that this surgery really IS a lifelong learning process... :) )
PS: THANKS BAYER for discontinuing the Citracal Creamy Bites. I loved those stupid things. I think I may have one or two left.... :(

Hi Julie! I've not heard of or tried it but would be interested in learning more. The fact that its liquid makes me a lot more curious. I'm gonna call and talk with my nut about it and she what she says. I'd be interested to see if other folks have tried it too and what their take is. Also, what's the cost?
Yep, definitely a life long learning process! I'm 5 years post op and STILL learn something new all the time.
Hope you're doing wonderfully!

WOW! Julie -you are so nearly at your goal!! Well done! You are looking great!
I don't know the answer to your quetion either although my nutrtiionist said once before not to use it........ I am not sure it really does have any better absorbability - I just find it easier to only have citrate and not risk kidney stone build up. I had 2 kidney stones within a few months of each other pre-surgery and I have no wish to repeat them...........
I think it will always be a learning process and that is a good thing - it stops us becoming complacent!
