I do get a sick feeling whenever I see the 1st Mrs. Maury but that isn't so much surgery related. Blair

For me, when I have a bad food reaction I either end up throwing up, or more often I get this nauseas uneasy feeling in my stomach.  Thankfully, I've only  had one "mild" (or so the doctors said) dumping experience but it was not food related, it was because I tried to cheat the system and took a handful of pills down with a huge gulp of water (haven't done THAT again since...). I think all the questions are great for us all to learn each others experiences!  Keep 'em coming! :)

Ditto to what Jill said on sick feelings: On March 5, 2008 at 5:08 AM Pacific Time, Sporty Jill wrote:

For me, sick feeling is:

If it was dry meat, it feels like it is stuck and if I drink a little water, it just sits on top of the stuck meat and EVERYTHING comes back up.  Happens if I eat too fast, too.

However, for me, dumping is: sweats, feel like I'm going to vomit, racing heat, headache, cramps int he intenstines, shakiness, sleepy So...it depends on what I've eaten as to what will happen.

I am 2 1/2 years out and only a couple of things make me sick.  Ice Cream (almost always), cereal (sometimes) and rice (sometimes).  With ice cream it is something about the milk & sugar that get me and I get the hot, sweaty, nauseous feeling & usually have to lay down because I also get very sleepy.  The reason I believe it is the milk/sugar because it will happen if I have like milk & cookies but not if I have just milk or just cookies (I know cookies are not supposed to be in my diet but I am not perfect).  With Cereal I usually try to get a nice low sugar type, the problem is it makes my sugar drop drastically within an hour of eating it and I get the shakes, etc. and have to eat something else to bring it back up.  I have decided that it just isn't worth eating it if I have to eat twice in order to keep my sugar up.  Rice really varies with me, no white rice or very little, just gets stuck every time.  No problem with fried rice unless I eat it too fast. Just a couple of weeks ago I had an aha moment that my tool still rules.  I have prided myself that when I had surgery I was so careful and never ended up throwing up because something was stuck or I ate too much (came real close a coule of times but managed to make it through).  Well at 2 1/2 years out, in one week I ended up doing it twice.  Both times I was eating too fast & things got stuck.  I tried waiting it out, I tried sipping on some liquids but that ended up being the last straw & to the bathroom I ran.

Oh yeah I forgot about that.... high sugar cereals and milk make me feel like crap too!  I forgot because I don't eat that junk any more.  I use to think it  milk but it isn't... it is the combo of dairy and sugar that makes my tummy do flip flops.
