Thanks Brandi for posting this.  I was just getting ready to do it:)  I am ready to start my liquid diet tomorrow.  I am a little worried as well but I am sure I will do fine.  I am just going to try to stay extremely busy.  I will let you know who it works out for me:)  I am sure we will both do just fine. WOW it's so weird to hear that some didnt have to do it. All the bariatric programs and such I have watched have all done some sort of a pre op/liver shrinking diet to one help shrink the liver ( imagine that lol ) and two aid themedicine  clear out your system and also not make it as bad on you after you take that medicine. Im sure there are other reasons too. I guess it only makes sense that you would want to be completly rid of everything from your intestine and stomach before they go cuttin on it...dont want anything seaping out...and with a clear liquid diet before hand that medicine wont have such harsh effect's.Of course I have heard of longer...but 5 day's is enough for me!!! All I really want at BG is hot chocolate...it's usaually a cold day on pass port day ( last year it was snowing ) and I love BG 's hot coco...but I'll survive if I do decide to go. Just a lil anxious about not ebing able to eat anything....Esp the two day's before the surgery when you have to take the clear you out med's because they saod NO PROTEIN on that day ... Im going to be one *****y mess! lol Thanks Brandi~ Ps I have bene wanting to use that icon since I joined this board !!! lol

Brandi, YOu will do fine and if you need to ***** or anything just call me and yell at me.  I think I will be so looney on meds that I wont  care what you say:)  So I am on day one on liquids.  I keep thinking "man the ay just started I think we are all going to bed at 5 so I will have a shorter day" I will try and give you a call this evening whn everything settles down. I didn't have to either.... I had to be NPO the morning and nothing BUT carbs (no meat or protein two days before) so that I could make sure it passed before surgery.  I think I took a pill of some sort too to clean the colon. (**ugg) Only clears for me was a couple days out... sorry.  But on the note of Bush Gardens, on one hand I think you should go because it will be a while before you feel up to doing something of that sort.... but it will be torturous for you smelling the food.  Could you possibly pack lots of koolaide?  If you have sugar in that maybe it will ward off the cravings for carbs??

Hi Brandi

When I was on my pre-op liquid diet, I turned to hot teas to help me through.......orange spice was my favorite......with splenda of course.  I drank lots of it, I would be in the 7-11 3 times a day for the 24 oz cup.......prolly was all in my mind, but whatever got me through, you know??

And as for the other question asked why some do go through the liquid pre op and some dont.....I went through the liquids because I was having Lap RNY done and it does shrink the liver so the liver does not get in the way of the probes and such.  Open RNY can eat a *final* meal the night before surgery......unless things have changed in the past 3 or so years.........this is why.

Good luck on your upcoming surgery!

Either it has changed or it's just a different doctor thing...our last meal with RNY is the night before you start your 5 day clear liquids...then two day's before is when you are on the toilet all day...and nothing past midnight the night before the surgery... I'll make it through...I just wont be very happy to begin with :)
