Daily Challenge - Try a meat substitute

High in protein, low in fat and chock full of vitamins, meat substitutes are popular on the plates of vegetarians and vegans. Recently, however, chefs have been adding them to the menus of some fancy restaurants, bringing items like tempeh, tofu, and seitan to the notice of foodies and even meat-lovers.

Meat substitutes come in a range of firmness, with an option for whole grain, cooked, raw, and pre-marinated versions. They all cook quickly, which makes them great for making dinner from scratch in a pinch. In the next 24 hours, find a meat substitute at your local market or restaurant and try it. ***Posted with the expressed written authority of Kashi.com.  Check out www.Kashi.com for more articles.

You are making my wife, the militant vegetarian happy with this post. I can say that I often go with the non-meat, high protein even post-op. I am a big fan off Thai and Indian foods, and in both you can get a tofu dish with some pretty exotic spices that let you hit your protein goals but manages to break up the monotony of another freaking chicken breast or some more darned tuna.

I like the faux meat crumbles to make stuffed peppers, chili or manwich.  BUT...living with the die-hard meat eater, I have to slip it in with them noticing - haha. Also, Trader Joes has some tastey meatless frozen meals that are pretty good.  They have a stuffed pablano pepper that it killer!

And, then there's Boco burgers.  i love boco burgers!

They are in the frozen food section - an entire case is usally devoted to it.  Also int he organic (healthy food) section in the grocery store (if yours has a frozen case in it). Some brands are Morningstar and Boca.

They are usually in the frozen foods sections. You have a great option there in HOOville. The Whole Foods should have a ton of fake meat products. Man I love that freaking place. When I was there last week I had some tempeh at lunch that spun my head. It was curried and mixed with veggies. If you go to a regular store like a Kroger, there is usually a frozen area with the hippie foods and the Morning Star and Boca and near the frozen waffles. They both have a pretty tasty breakfast sausage that is made from soy.

I had weight loss surgery. I did it the easy way.

I really like the sausage.  I prefer it over pork sausage anyday (however, turkey is my absolute favorite). I also like the veggie bites and faux pigs in a blanket....YUMO!
