UKROPS 10K in Richmond

As many of you already know, a few of us (ok...that I know of, me and Joe) will be running in the UKROPS 10K on April 5th in Richmond.  Several of you have offered to come out and cheer us on....THAT'S GREAT OF YOU GUYS!!! Anyone else want to join us in the run?  There's still plenty of time to register.  Simply go to http://www.sportsbackers.org/10kmainpage.htm Nothing in the rule book says you cannot walk it, so who's up for a walk???  In fact, you can even register as a walker. If you've just started running, or getting back into running, this is a great way to challenge yourself.  Walk a bit, then run a bit - keep doing this until you get to the finish line. Just make the goal to FINISH!  And with the support of this board...you most definately will! This is a GREAT way to get in some physical activity, support the community (it's a fund raiser), train for something bigger (like a 1/2 marathon....uummm....Joe, are you up for the challenge with me???), and just plain have fun!  And there is no feeling like challenging yourself and winning the challenge. So...who's in????? The more the merrier.................

I should be cleared for exercise by then so count me in as a walker  - I can't run but what a fun activity to do as a board! I think it is a good way of getting exercise too and seeing how fit I am by then. ........ So how about everyone else? Up to the challenge and a bit of fun? Heck if I can do it I am sure there are fitter people than me around here.   Anyone just going to come to keep us company and cheer us on? Jackie

OMG!  How awesome is this!  You can totally walk this. Just make sure that when you register you register as a walker.

And you are right...this is a GREAT activity to do as a board....burn some calories and have some fun!  And all for a great cause.

In fact...one of the causes you can do a donation for when you register is for Childhood Obesity.  How appropriate that we walk/run for money towards research and eductation of childhood obesity.  Isn't that GREAT?!?!

It's Saturday, April 5th in Richmond.  My son and I plan to stay the night up there so I don't have to get up so early and drive up. There is an Expo on Friday night, that's when you pick up your packet and t-shirt.  Your packet will tell you the specifics and often times gives you a few freebies from the sponsors. From what I can gather, it's a really cool run'/walk through Richmond and it fills up fairly quickly.  So the earlier you register, the better.

I'm a registered walker, too!  I figured it would be a good start for my training for the breast cancer 3 day in october!  I'm going to be entering a lot of these things I think!  :)  I'm pretty excited for being able to do it.  Last year I was so out of shape there was no way I would have even thought about walking just over 6 miles!  the run/walk is on April 5th.

YEAH!!!! We will all have to coordinate a meeting point for the Expo and/or the walk/run.

This is going to be GREAT fun and a GREAT way to meet each other....doing something fun, healthy and for a GREAT cause.

Like you...this is one of my training events.  I'm doing the Rock and Roll 1/2 marathon in August.

I think I have to skip out on the walking this year, since I have a feeling I'll still be on the road to recovery. I am very disappointed, since I would love to walk it with others - I'll see how I feel over the next week or two. I'm definitely in it for next year, though. I remember the first year I moved to our neighborhood here and we had a 5K. I thought I could handle it - perhaps because I had not been doing any exercise AT ALL and didn't realize how out of shape I really was. It was in April, but it was an unusually warm day. There were a couple of hundred residents in our neighborhood that came out for the event... lots of dogs, strollers, runners, joggers, everyone of all ages. About 5 minutes into it (literally) I realized that I was in over my head and this would be hard. Everyone went on ahead of me at my urging and I ended up doing the entire walk by myself, after the majority of people had gone on ahead. I was so embarrassed as I walked the route through the neighborhood... at one point, I even took the number off my shirt so people would not know that I was actually part of the event. I wanted to go home so badly, but I just kept plodding along. I was literally the last person to finish, over an hour after the person before me. There were several of my neighbors at the finish line who cheered me on as I came down the last hill... I felt so humiliated but at least I finished it! I keep that number sign on my office wall as a reminder of how hard that was for me and how I stuck it out and finished.

Ok....you finished it!  I am SO proud of you and your dedication.  I've been where you were - wanted to just walk out, but, like you trudged through it and was proud of myself for doing that, so...you too should be proud of your efforts. We WILL get you next year - haha.  I'd like to make this a board event, becuase I think this is a GREAT way for us to get together and do something healthy for us and the community. Since you won't be cleared for walking...how about coming out and supporting us?  Cheer us on??  We can certainly us that! We can chat more about it on Saturday.........
