Daily Inspiration - Plan for strong feelings
Plan for strong feelings.
After WLS, a flood of feelings may wash over you. Strong emotions can be unsettling. Remember, you are not dealing with feelings the same way anymore. Prior to surgery, you were probably an emotional eater; food was your comfort. Finding ways to control your food intake now may create stress and depression.
You can channel strong emotions in a constructive way. A constructive way is not exchanging one self-destructive behavior for another, like drinking alcohol instead of overeating. Strong emotions do not have to rule you. Recognize them as symptoms of change, and find a way to dispel them without harming yourself or others. And remember, all strong feelings will pass.
Action for the day: Construct a plan for times when strong feelings arise so that they do not harm you or derail your WLS efforts.
