Many people have almost forgotten how to cook a meal from scratch, but cooking from scratch provides myriad benefits.
First, you are moving about the kitchen, so you are undoubtedly burning calories. Second, you can control the quality of the food you use in your cooking, thus boosting the nutritional value. And third, if you're in the kitchen cooking from scratch, you are avoiding the prepared and prepackaged foods that have loads of extra fat (the unhealthy kind) and added sugar (it would surprise you what sugar gets added to!)
Action for the day: Make a favorite recipe from scratch, substituting lower-fat and whole-grain products for their higher-calorie, refined versions.
