I"M HOME, TOO
Well, after a fairly unevenful surgery on Monday, besides the numerous IV attempts that failed because I was dehydrated, everything else went as expected. I was in my room by 8:00pm gagging and wretching from the anestesia, which gets me everytime, and thought I would surely die. My sugars stayed pretty high,so they had to give me insulin several times, as well as nausea meds and the IVfluids were going in but not going out so they had to give me lasix for that. It just seemed like one thing after another. And I don't know whether it's because of my age or what but I hurt like hell, and after 2 C sections I thought I could take pain, but this has been hideous. I'm taking my meds like i'm supposed to, but it doesn't let up to much. How long does this last?I feel so helpless. I don't know what I would have done if I would have had to be home alone. I definately don't recommend it to anyone. But make some room on that bench for me, I might be hanging my head in a bucket, but my hinny is on the bench. Pam
Pam,
I dont have any advice about post op because my surgery is not until april 30 but i can relate to the high sugars as mine last week were running about 500-600 because of steroids, but i did want to let ya know that i am praying for a speedy recovery. you are on the journey now and i hope that it soon gets easier and the pain subsides soon. just keep reminding yourself how rewarding it will all be in the long one. best wishes and prayers
hugs, theresa

Congratulations Pam!! I was wondering how you were doing! And you are well enough to report in so that is great!!
It does get better every single day or at least it did for me. The anesthetic got me once on one of my plastic surgeries and I thought I was going to die from the nausea!! As for my gastric bypass I woke in pain from it and it hurt for a couple of days - once they got my pain under control life became much easier and by the time I left hospital I was actually feeling quite good...... Once you get all this ansethetic out of your system things will start to improve for you....
Hard as it might seem just doing some walking can help get your system moving again. I had open RNY so gas was not a great problem for me but I know some other people with lap RNY had terrible gas and walking was the only way they could get rid of it.
By this time next week things will look brighter for you.....
But hey - it is good to have you on the bench with us!! Soon - if not already - you will be an official loser and very happy about it!!!
Take care - and write here if you just want to talk or vent - there will be many that can relate to what you are going through!!!
Hugs
Jackie
I was wondering how your's went and Im sorry that you have had such a hard time. I know EXACTLY how you feel about the failed Iv attempts because mine were the same way....and I HATE IV'S I have a phobia t begin with. Thank god for the numbing shot's they did everytime they tried a new iv!!!!
The pain for me hasnt been that terrible. I too have had 2 c sections. The gas was KILLER but thankfully last night and this morning I was able to pass some!!!!!!!
I will be glad when I dont have to take the pain med's every 3 or 6 hours...I hate feeling drugged up but untill all this gas pain goes away, I cant deal without it.
I sure hope that you start to feel better REAL soon! One can only think that everyday that goes by you get closer to some relief! Keep us posted!

Glad to hear that you are home and on the road to recovery. As you have found out, you cannot take this surgery (or the opportunities it provides) lightly. It is major surgery......
I was uncomfortable for a good week, where I thought I would die just to cough. But...it will get better as time goes on. Just be prepared for the emotional side. It can make you depressed, weepy, anxious and everything else. Especially in the beginning, as you feel like cr*p, the pain pills are in your system, the anasthesia is coming out, you are trying to figure this whole process out, etc. So, just know when you have ugly feelings....it's normal in the beginning.
Hope you feel better, get plenty of rest, and try and stay hydrated.....

So glad you are home! Sorry to hear about the pain and nausea, trust me I have been there adn done that. Just make sure to get in enough fluids or the nausea will only get worse. Hang in there and things will get better!!

Good am Pam,
Glad you are home and surgery went well. Oh man the Anesthesia Fairy and I do NOT get along EVER. I vomit and stay ill for some time afterwards. They've even got so much better (for some) about giving meds to "settle your system" so you don't vomit.
Doesn't work for me though! I too experienced issues with sugar following my WLS and stayed in the hospital an extra day due to that. Your feeling/being sick will pass. Give yourself a break and time as your body has just been through a tremendous amount of trauma and you have to take time to heal. Keep your chin up and know you are not alone. All best!
