I'm just catching up from a couple of days worth of posts. So first, welcome home and I'm so glad you're doing well with these first post-op recovery days. As far as adding foods, I think you should check with your program nutritionist. I was on liquids only for the first 2 weeks post-op, then pureed foods for 2 weeks after. Your program obviously allows a larger variety of foods sooner. I'm glad you are tolerating the foods you have tried so far. Good luck adding some more!

I'm suprised at how rapidly you were able to go through clear and full liquids to puree and softs! Good for you!  I am not much help as I have to stay on puree/softs until week 5 or so. No "real" foods until then. It'll be longer for me since 11 days out I'm still on full liquids and very very very thin purees which fill me up!  Call or email the nutritionist. They'll be a great help with what to eat and when.   I'm not having difficulty with things being "stuck" they just don't digest rapidly at all!

How are you doing?   I am looking forward to today in eating full liquids for the first time.   I have lost 10 lbs since Monday!  I am 205 as of today!! woohoo..........I have so much energy!  I can't believe it.  I do look forward in my follow up on TUes to get the tapes removed that don't seem to be loosening up.   I am not sore anywhere.........unbelievable surgery.    I have mixed 1 can of cream of chicken with 1 can of milk(1%) ----I have strained it, now to eat it and wondering already at how much I can handle.    I sure don't want to get miserable around relatives as they eat their HUGE EASTER SPREAD!!!!    What does a normal day of eating consist of for you if you don't mind me asking?   Take care..........I am so glad I had this done!   Welcome any suggestions......

Hey you!!! How did it go with the full liquids?  I found that I needed to make full liquids very thin, still.  So I added a cup of broth AND a cup of ff milk to my cream of broccoli soup and strained it.   This past few days I pulverized it in a blender and it was okay, but I'm allowed purees now, even though my progression to them is very very very slow.  The reason being I can't drink for MANY hours after I eat without discomfort so I have to make sure I'm getting fluids. I chose to keep drinking protein fluids in order to get my nutrition in rather than progressing through the food stages if that makes sense.   Just listen to your tummy and take your time eating the soup even if you have to warm it up again half way through. I'm finding that I have the tendency to rush through meals and this will be my biggest adjustment. Eating SLOWLY.  The pinchy feeling means full!!!   I hear you on the spread. I just returned from one at my mother in law's.  Good thing there wasn't a whole lot that I love!  I did have a tablespoon of sweet potato souffle.  My first semi solid food. Hooray!  I'm so glad you aren't sore from the surgery!  That is surely a blessing . It allows you to move around a lot and start walking etc.  Great to hear from you!   Dr Chan was probably still at the hospital with you last week when he didn't make my post op appt!  TOO funny. I saw Dr. Williams, it was fine.      I'm loving the excitement in your text voice.  You sound like you are doing great!!  Will you be trying to attend ALAGSA's support groups?   This is my normal day on full liquids/semi purees:  morning: Unjury shake with milk and water and lots of ice.  then I hit the fluids hard.   mid day:  shake, broth or very thin soup.  Fluids, if I can. If I can't, I don't have an evening "meal", I just drink fluids for the rest of the evening which might include a shake or chicken flavored unjury, jello made with unjury unflavored powder. Evening:   If I can eat--puree cream of broccoli soup.  fluids if I can tolerate them again before bed.  I take a bottle of water to bed with me every night.  This is an old habit of mine from my breast feeding days that works well to sneak in extra fluids. Every time I wake up or get up during the night, I sip sip sip water.  I am waking a lot less now that I have a cpap, but still wake up a few times and sip the water. Then its there when I get up and if there's any left, I start sipping right away. I take the water up with me frozen, and put it in an insulated thingie so that it melts slowly overnight, and its still cold in the morning.  :)   I hope this helps a little!

Oh my the "full liquids" are here at last.......lol.   I had a SF FF choc pudding cup and managed to get down 2 oz.  Then, later on......1/2 cup cream of chicken with a can of milk and 1/4 cup of broth.......IT WAS HEAVEN!!!   I can't wait till tomorrow for MORE.....lol.     On another note......I purchased Isopure--banana/pineapple/orange flavor.   I definitely will be doctoring it up tomorrow and try again.  I tried to make it 50 grams right off the bat by doing the 2 scoops into 12 oz of water-----way too much to consume.  So tomorrow, I will make a one serving then later in the afternoon do the other and then will have in 50---hopefully.   Also, I have this popsicle thing that I am pouring it into and will set my mind that it is a "dreamsicle".   I think I can add SF and FF vanilla icecream and make a milkshake with a bit of added "peaches" really dissolved.   I am looking into purchasing hot cocoa from the diet store too and maybe a few other things to get me going well with the protein.    I am very, very excited to keep it going here after seeing the great results of one week.  I know it isn't going to come off quickly like this always, but for now.....woohoo..!!!!  Dr. Chan had 3 surgeries the day I was there, I was his "first"!!!  Whew!!!! lol..........He has gone for a month I think on vacation now, so will be seeing Dr. Williams on Tues for my follow up...   Thank you Dawn for keeping in touch and for letting me know what you are consuming.   It helps to get a schedule going especially since I am heading back to work on Wed.........Thanks so much and keep in touch!!!!

I'm with Mary (we had surgery by same group) so we did 2 weeks post op liquid, 2 weeks pureed and then three progressions of solid foods.  Did your office give you a list of suggestions?   I pulled out my book and looking at what you are eating now, I'm guessing you're on the pureed stage?  Some of the suggestions we were given were: pintos & beans inside of a manicotta (cheese and sauce...NO noodle) blenderized chili gravy on mashed taters blenderized soups or stews (fyi generally speaking soups/stews are frowned upon because of the high calories and salt, BUT at the pureed stage you were eating so little quanitity that we were allowed these things) BUT please check with your surgeons guidlines because we are all different and I wouldn't want to steer you to any foods too quickly.

Yea everyone is different, it's just that our group's info handed out to us seems to be quite different from that of which we followed in the hospital. Very confusing when the litature you are handed and told to study for the better part of a year waiting, all a sudden We realize that alot of what we learned is contradiciting to what we were told later. I guess I will just keep eating at this consistancy untill my appointment on Wed and then I will find out more there :) Thanks for the help Brandi~

Brandi our discaharge sheet on what we are allowed to eat says: Stage 3 . Hourly between meal feedings of 3-4 oz of water .Meals may includescrambled eggs, pureed meat, fish, or poultry, pureedfruits(unsweetened applesauce), pureed vegetables, dietyogurt, or cottage cheese. Hope this helps since we see the same doc. Marion
