Help with protein drinks

So I've been checking into protein drinks, and I know everyone has a different taste, etc. But....what should I be looking for. How much protein is a good amount per serving? Also, I'm guessing I should be looking at sugar and carbs. I went to Wal-Mart last night. I bought EAS AdvantEDGE Carb control strawberry cream that has 17 grams protein per 11 ounces. Is that enough? I did like the taste of it. I also seen whey, but it only came in a large size. Does anyone know if that comes in a smaller container somewhere else? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Penny

Everyone's tastes are so different -- what I might suggest is going to bariatriceating.com or one of the other sites and ordering samples to see what you like.  The Vitamin Shoppe and GNC are also two other good sources...both are online or you can go to one of the stores.  As far as protein type -- for me it is Whey.  I hope this helps.  :)

Hi,  I am 16 months out so I've done a lot of experimenting along the way. I like to choose a protein drink with 20 or more g's of protein so I can get the best bang for my buck and also so I am not a slave to drinking my protein. 17 g's is ok if you like it and will drink it though! My fav's are Isopure Dutch Chocolate low carb a powder you buy in 3 lb quantities from vitamin shop or on line 27.5 g's per scoop can be mixed woth water or milk, I actually prefer water and ice in the bullet for a shake! Kind ofYoohoo like. With milk it seemed too sweet with the milk sugars, but more protein for you that way. I also like Unjury unflavored, go on line to wwwunjury.com.  they are local and this is what you get at the hospital if you go to Fair Oaks. I like to put this in the bullet with a cup of skim milk 1/2 frozen banana (to me it masks the protein taste) 2-3 splendas ice and blend. Yum, yum!!! 20 g's of protein My all time favorite is AchieveOne which is a premixed coffee flavored protein drink. It tastes like a starbucks coffee. Now this has caffeine in it and your Nutritionist may ask you to stay away from caffeine for obvious reasons in the beginning and limit yourself to small amounts a little further out. Or maybe no caffeine at all.My Nut. knows this is my favorite and my protein levels are very good and I am careful about caffeine so she doesn't object to it. Ask your Nutritionist about this one. You can get it from Bumblebeecottage.net. AchievOne will be coming out with a choc. and Vanilla without caffeine around the month of June. It is so very important for healing after your surgery and staying healthy afterward to always consume the amount of protein your Nutritionist suggests.   I hope this helps! Good luck on your journey!Do as you are told by your professionals and you can't help but to be successful! Take care!! McLean

Penny .  While taste is important , so is the type of protein .  My doctor and many nutricianist reccomen drinks that have Whey Protein Isolates and Whey protein Concentrate. With this type of whey you are sure to get the correct amount of Amino Acids. 21 to be exact.  Nectar - is a good one . It has 20 grams - no sugar or carbs . 100 calories.  It comes in many great flavors .  Fuzzy Navel  Tea -Lemon  Apple ..  AcheivOne to me is the best . It has great flavor - 20 grams of protein and no sugar .  It can be purchased through www.bumblebeecottage.net .  Right now she is out of the Cappachino .. my fav .. but the Vanilla nut is awesome too .  Keep in mind our new stomachs only absorb @ 30 grams of protein at one sitting . This is Every 4 hours . So you can do 2 or 3 shakes a day .. and the rest from food .  Also know that certain foods are higher in the Bioviablity scale .. such as Fish , Chicken - Turkey - Beef .  Nuts, Legumes and Soy are low and not as much impact for offering the full effect .  AES  is good too .. if you like the taste- go for it .  Wishing you the best .  Tink

Check out  www.bariatriceating.com www.mydietshopz.com www.vitaminlady.com www.chikenutrition.com www.unjury.com All these places are great for sending samples or you can order samples for yourself to try. I also like the Atkins Chocloate Shakes (grocery stores sell them) 15 grams per serving.
