Hi I lived in Hawaii for 12 years and I miss it so much. But I will be going back to visit next may.  One thing you may be able to bring the cup size applesauce or fruit since it is packaged they might let you take it on the plane. Best thing check with the airlines before hand. I know you can request a special meal just have to do it ahead of time. Oh one more thing you may want to put in your purse those Special K protein packs so you can add that to your water. it is only 5 grams of protein but it can help. Have a great trip Gwen.

Well I just love Hawaii as well! Just relax and have fun and get in some good eatin..... you don't eat much so you don't need too many snacks for the plane - and they'll feed ya if you ask them nicely ha ha ha! Have fun! Rosie

Yeah - what Jen said!  Pack me! All kidding aside... I am a travel agent and I am married to a polynesian guy...we've been to Hawaii many times. You must be flying United via Chicago for the 8hour flight.  I've done that, too. Just try to get up and walk back and forth to the bathroom a couple times! Reading material and the iPod work, too!  First of all, if you request a kosher meal with the airline, the meat is usually fresher. You can also request low salt or fruit plate or a diabetic meal.  Each airline is different with what type of mean they offer, but diabetic or  kosher is a given. You can carry on food that you buy AFTER the TSA check, so you can pick up some healthy snacks - nuts or dried fruit before you board.   You could eat the cheese and cold cuts.  That's some protein and should be fine. In Hawaii, where are you staying?  The fantastic thing is that there is so much fresh food there!  The fruit is SO good and the BBQ is great!  Again - protein! You'll get lots of exercise, too!  Bike Diamond Head if you get a chance.  If you are renting a car...just a warning in advance.... If it's Thrifty or Alamo - Make sure you check out the car before you drive it off the lot and make sure you write down all of the bumps and scratches and stuff.   I've stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village a couple different times and valet scratched my car.   I've also stayed at the Hale Koa, the Outrigger on the Beach and  the cabins at Bellows AFB. We've been the the Polynesian Cultural Center a couple different times -  It's hot, but worth the ride up the coast.  The night show is nice. We've been to Maui, but stayed with family there. Will you be able to go to some of the other islands?   Pick up some Jack in the Box for me - it's terrible for you, but I love the tacos... whatever that meat is...lol! Have fun! J

I wish I could take everyone with me, that would be so much fun.  We are actually going on American Airlines.  Thank you for all the tips, they will come in handy.  Espically about the rental car.  I am still in shock that I am going.  I was a little nervous in asking for advice because I don't post any questions here.  I still don't feel confortable in posting a picture.  But I promise to post one from the trip. (if I can figure it out..lol).  What a great bunch of friends you all are.  If you wish, you may add me to you friends list.

Oh good!  A new friend! Don't be nervous to post here!  We're harmless...lol! And when we meet again for lunch, I hope you come along. The more support and friendships, the better, right? Ahhh...American.  You might have seen on the news lately that they've had alot of flight cancellations for maintenance reasons within the last couple of days on their MD aircraft. Double check their website to make sure your flight is operating. You're gonna have a wonderful time!  Try to visit the Arizona Memorial while you are there. xo J
