Well, I won't know for 100% sure until I see my cardio doc on Monday, but it's likely that I will be having surgery very, very soon.  My defibrillator implant has started beeping at me & that is an indication that the battery is dying...not a good thing.  And this won't be a routine operation of simply replacing the battery...the whole device will have to be changed AND he will be adding a second lead that will go into my right ventrical (I think??)...I'll have a matching pair.  So that will probably mean I will be in hospital for a couple of days.  Am I concerned.  Ummm, yeah, a little.  We just talked about this a couple of weeks ago & he thought I still had a couple of years left...who knew, right?  My biggest concern will have to do with the anesthesia though.  The last time I went through this I was given the twilight stuff.  I TRIED to tell them it wouldn't work, but was I listened to??  NOOOOO!!  I woke up 5 times during surgery!!!  Couldn't speak or move, but they KNEW I was awake.  I could feel them cutting on me & everything but could do nothing.  I had nightmares for months after that.  I FIRED that cardio doc.  So needless to say I will be most adamant that I be given full anesthesia since twilight has NEVER worked on me. I promise to keep ya'll update as info becomes available.  Just thought I'd give you a heads-up.

Hugs!
Ann

Awww so sorry that you are having to go through all this.  If only you lived closer, I'd recommend my cardiologist.  He is extra dreamy and has super talent.  I will pray for you and for a speedy recovery in what ever they decide to do. Hugs, Theresa

Ann, I am sorry you are having to deal with this.  The best advice I can give is to be your own biggest advocate as far as your own health care and being treated before, during and after the surgery.  Over the last 5 or so years, my sisters and I have to had really work through the medical system on behalf of our parents, and it is quite a process, but well worth it in the end.  Their docs are fantastic...we had to sift through some, but we know the ones they have are THE BEST.  You deserve nothing but the best and should expect nothing less than that!  Take care of yourself, and I wish you the very best for a successful surgery and post-op.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.  :)

Thanks Cindy & Theresa!  Have no fear, darlings...I will NOT go through that nightmare again.  Being a medic means I have just enough information to make me dangerous... ...  not to mention all the years that I have been dealing with this...I've learned a thing or two or three.  So I'm prepared for anything.  The question will be is the DOC prepared for ME????  Poor guy...lol!!!

Hugs!

Good pm Ann, (((((HUGS))))) So, we are going to need you around for a lot more years. That means you have to suck it up, have surgery and get on with living woman! Oh I hear ya on the anesthesia part. I NEVER have a good experience with anesthesia and its lasting effects rein over me for MONTHS. Um, ok first of all I re-read what you typed and THANKFULLY I have NEVER woken up DURING surgery. I just get sick as all get out from anesthesia no matter WHAT they try to do to help me. About that promise you BETTA!

I am sorry you are having to go through this.  I hope and pray this will not be a scary event.  Go through that trauma, must be difficult.  I will post my cardiomyopathy story under the post you posted to me.  Many hugs.
