Monday's "Thought for the day....."

CONSISTENCY In our WLS journeys "CONSISTENCY" is at the heart of it all! Do you face each day with a "winning" attitude? Do your words and actions match? Do you really and truly remain consistent in your journey? We all know that each day we might face trials and situations beyond our control but we DO have choices and options that we can make to help us get back on track no matter how bad the situation or trial. Certain attitudes, actions and ways of thinking are compatible with WLS and others are not. This is true on the job, in our circle of friends and in our families and communities. It does a great disservce to our journeys if we speak one way but act in another. If you are eating healthy and exercising and following all the "rules" to be successful at home then that should carry over to your job as well. Eating right only half the time will not lead you into the future with the best outcomes. We cannot be adamant about our successes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday then give up and give in on Tuesday and Thursday and exude behaviors that are detrimental to our journey.  We have to be consistent each and every day possible with our exercise, fluids, vitamins, medications and eating. We have to stand up for ourselves like we have through the process of obtaining WLS. We have to fight just as hard each day moving foward as we did in the beginning of our journeys. We have to change up our eating patterns, excercise regimens, fluid intake based on activities, vitamins based on blood work and health needs and dietary changes as our bodies change.  So, in light of the above: HOW DO YOU REMAIN CONSISTENT IN YOUR WLS JOURNEY?  DO YOUR WORDS AND ACTIONS MATCH?  ARE THERE GOALS YOU ARE TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH BUT NEED SOME ADVICE OR ASSISTANCE WITH?

Good Morning, Sunshine....

GREAT topic,a nd I really hope we get some old-timers chiming in on this one.... Youa re right...consistency IS the key to our success.  I swear, I do MUCH better during the week, because everything is "programmed"...."scheduled"....."consistent".  Weekends are tough, because I feel like I am just flying by the seat of my pants.  I wake up an hour later and it just goes from there..... But, to remain consistent, I plan.   I plan my dinners around a meal pattern of meat and veggies (pretty simply, huh?).  Lunches are usually leftovers from dinner the night before.  Pretty redundant sometimes, but it works.   I plan my physical activity to avoid burn out, injury, and yet to accomplish my firness/running goals.  I start the week with my calendar, look at what classes I want to take at the dance studio and schedule them in on my calendar. I plan the amount of water I am going to drink, by setting out a specific number of crystal light packets.  One packet is equal to 1 bottle of water. It may seem repetitive, but for me ....it works.  During the week, I do not work outside of my plan, unless I absolutely have too. Do my words and actions match?  Most definately.  If I say that I am going to work out, unless something happens I work out...and everyone can see it in my results.  I refuse to say one thing and do another.  if life got in the way of my plan, I announce it.  It's what keeps me accountable. Right now, my only goal is to keep myself motivated in my running.  I am training to run the 1/2 marathon in August (13.1 miles) and there are times, where I think that I am crazy.  BUT...my son wants us to train next year for the Tri-Athalon and I think I could train to do that (I know...CRAZY!).

Well I try but not sure how well I succeed.  I definitely struggle on the weekends, as Jill said, during the week, things are more structured, timed, etc.  The weekends definitely throw me off with my water & sometimes my food intake.  I struggle the most with my exercise.  I love going to the gym, I go strong for awhle & then something happens that throws me off & I get off track and it takes awhile to get back on.  That is where I am right now.  Time to get back on track but struggling with scheduling & being sick.  Hope to fix it up this week so we shall see.  I try very hard to stick with my  better food choices but I also believe that sometimes you have to give in to the cravings in order to have a bit more mental stability.  So for the most part I make the right choices but every now & again I cheat.  :)
