The Ukrops marathon??

It was such a great run, despite the rain.  But...MAN did I feel it later.  As I was getting into the groove, for some reason, my left hip kept hitting higher up than normal and I swear Patrick had to peel me out of the car when I got home.  My left hip was KILLING me!  Doing some reading about it today, and was just my body being out of sink. The time, all in all, was satisfying, but a bit disappointing as I had just run 6 miles at just a tad over 63 minutes.  But, I think that my hip issue was causing me to use more energy than I needed to, because I ended up eating almost that whole bag of beans during my run.  Normally, 3 or 4 beans and I'm good. I also need to stop checking my Ipod.  I get my pace and I panic that it's too fast and I won;t be able to make it to the end, when I have so much energy at the end that I need to learn to spread it out....make sense???  It's the whole psychological (sp) thing..... But, after yesterday's race....my new catch phrase seems even MORE appropriate (especially now that we've had 2 runs) Ya I run like a Girl....now catch me HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

We should look for another run!  It's GREAT having a running buddy.  VERY motivational...and once you establish your baseline, they know if you haven't been running.......

Ok I did not fully understand what you were saying about caffein - that it is wrong to drink it  - wrong to drink it before a race - wrong to abstain and then drink it before a race?? What was your final conculsion? Great recap though - I doubt I could start off fast - at my last attempts before the lipo on my legs I used to walk and then try to run for a minute and I found myself waiting for the minute to be up so I could walk - now that was on a treadmill - outside I can usually run a bit longer - like 1 mins 20 secs at one time lol!! But you guys are so inspirational that I really do want to try again to run....... Jackie

Sorry, I got to rambling and guess I never directly stated, I took in too much caffine and it made my heart race and head buzz and I think it contributed greatly to my stuggle to control my breathing as happened in the Shamrock.  I think I am going to cut that strategy way back especially on race days. I had that good run at work with half a laen Sobe energy drik and two protein bars at mid morning before my 12 noon jaunt.  I should trust that more I think , on race day.

The article I read "the Caffinated Runner says yes, it improves performance if taken correctly and and as a performance enhancement and not as an everyday supplement or it can be damaging.

Just for the record...I do NOT use the caffine.  I hated how I felt with too much caffine before surgery, so I cannot imagine now with the smaller tummy.  But, you can buy something similiar to a gummy bear that has caffine in it.

I eat pieces of a perfromance bar during my long runs (right about the 3 mile mark) and that helps me.  Plus, I will eat a few performance jelly belly beans.  Instead of caffine, they have sugar and electrolytes in them, and I eat 3 just before starting.  And about an hour before, I drink a crystal light hydrated to make sure that I am hydrated.  I skipped the Powerade at the run, not sure how my body would handle it, and stuck with water at the water stops.  You just grab and go....try to drink while running and let out a big burp, cause you took in too much air - haha.

Sorry this is so late, but I did make it through the 10k, too!! My friends didn't look at the map too well and we ended up parking 4 miles from the start line!!! It took us about an hour and a half to walk to the race and by the time we got there I was close to done. I did manage to finish, but I'm still sore today. I was having trouble with the way the street crowned(I think that is what it is called when the middle is much higher than the sides) and I had to keep switching from the left, to right, to middle because my hips were getting very sore. I ran a little, but it was very little since I had to walk so far to get there. I'm not very proud of my time, I was really hoping to have it less...but here ya go.
