Thursday's 'Thought for the day....' WITH CHALLENGE!
WORDS OF PRAISE
Often times we encourage others, lift them up with praise, prayer, laughter, simple gestures (i.e notes, emails, e-cards, cards, letters, gifts etc), hugs, kisses, compliments and the list continues. But what about ourselves? I've noticed on the boards recently (even me) that there are struggles with folks accepting praise, encouragement etc of their own. In fact, we are ALL guilty of this at one time or another. Its really important that we be honest with ourselves and realize that none of us is perfect but we are very worthy of all these things.
It's important to lift one another up in good and not so great times and although it may be hard to accept compliments and praise we should try and change our line of thinking. For example: if someone says "you're doing a great job with your work" and they list 3-5 reasons why they are saying that try saying "THANK YOU" with a smile and believing it. Think of those reasons as positives like sticking a feather in your cap of accomplishment.
Another example is being years post-op and feeling a bit like the "been there done that" folks and not getting as much encouragement and praise as we did we our journey began. However, we are STILL vital, still changing, still learning, still growing and still worthy. When we are complimented and praised we might think "huh what is he/she talking about?"
We have to allow ourselves to accept happiness, accept compliments and praise, accept that we are a vital part of others lives and we have to come to terms with saying "THANK YOU" and meaning it. We cannot dwell on those things trying to find ways they couldn't possibly be true. We get down, depressed, sad etc and we get to a place where eating badly, not drinking enough of the good fluids, not exercising etc and we think "oh well I'm failing who cares cause I sure don't right now" and that is where we have to flick the switch in the back of our heads and say "NOT WORKING FOR ME" and switch our line of thinking.
So, I have a challenge.....
I'd like you to respond with 5 affirmations (positive) about yourself that you can say EVERYDAY and truly come to believe.
Dig deep! You owe this to yourself!
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
All best!

Okay I will try this one but not sure how well I will do as I am really struggling right now with this. Don't feel very positive about myself at all in any capacity.
1. I am a good friend, I am there when my friends need me & try to do what I can to help them
2. I have a big heart, open to others
3. I take my responsibilities seriously
4.
5.
Well that seems to be all I can get. I can think of other positive things in my life, but nothing specifically positive about me. I hope others are doing better than me.
Miss Courtney, those were ok, and so true, but I can think of 4 & 5 for you since you don't feel like you're in that "good place" right now. If I'm understanding Kat's post correctly, she wants us to affirm "personal" traits. Hmm..,,in rereading her post, maybe it's not that limited. Well, anyway, if I may add my 2 cents to your list...
4. You lost a whole person!! Remember when you were 305 lbs??
5. You have a killer smile. If you don't believe me, go look in the mirror & smile at yourself!
6. You inspire others.
7. You offer up love unconditionally.
Ok, my turn.
1. I like my bubbly personality.
2. I like that I try to improve my outward appearance by choosing the right clothes, put on make up, fuss with my hair, make sure my hands & feet look good. I find if I feel good about my outside, my inside follows along.
3. I like that I'm opinionated.
4. I like that I am pretty darned good at choosing my friends & am able to accept them as they are.
5. I like that I don't give up...I'm a fighter. Even though I was fearful of this surgery I just had, I still kept my fighting instincts.
How'd I do?
