Hi Anna, I would love for you to visit. Thank you.  It's comforting to hear that you don't miss anything. And I know this has to be a major lifestyle change and I think I'm ready. But something inside me just keeps telling me only 1 more day of sweets, junk, etc.. Its like I'm saying goodbye to something.  Thanks, Penny

Hi, Penny:  I wouldn't say I miss food -- sometimes I have a fleeting thought about how good something would taste that I know I can't tolerate, but then I remember the downside of eating it, and the thought disappears.  Honestly, eating healthy like I am has made me feel so much better...it is incredible.  As the others have said, now food is fuel -- pure and simple -- and thinking of it that way makes all of the difference in the world.  I am still a "newbie" (not yet 7 months out), but I can tell you that I don't miss a thing!!!  Best of luck -- you are going on probably the best journey of your life!  :)

Great Question and Great Answers!  I have been worried about the same thing and seem to want to eat more of no-no foods recently.  Like alot of the responses,  all we can hope for is the feeling of losing the weight outweighs  the feeling of wanting the food.  I think we all want the success more but the food desires have to be strong in the beginning.  I continue to come here for support and encouragement, this board is truly amazing.  I have my pre-op on April 23rd and from what I understand I should be able to pick my surgery date that day!  So excited I can hardly stand wait!  Thanks for all the great info and amazing stories of success. Susan  :)

Susan, Best wishes on your journey. Please keep us posted on your surgery date. And yes this is a great place to come for support. I truly don't believe I  would be having this surgery without the support and knowledge of the "veterans" on this board. Penny

Penny these are normal feelings as your surgery gets near.  I personally don't miss anything because I don't really limit myself.  I let myself have the bad stuff on occasion if I am craving it.  Do I eat cheeseburgers & pizza every day, no but if I crave some then I will allow myself a little every once in awhile.  Of course that is now at 2 1/2 years out.  In the beginning I was a lot stricter with myself.  I have to say though that most of the really bad for you stuff, once I pretty much got it out of my system, I don't really want it anymore and don't have it.  Plus there are so many other options to get something similar to what you want, but stay in the healthy guidelines.

I just had surgery 4 days ago, and while I was on my liquid diet I didn't have problems with wanting food I shouldn't have. But now that I am out of surgery I am craving weird things. and I am dying for some real food!!!!! I have been craving things like a cheese quesadilla... lol something I never really would have eaten before. I mostly find myself craving things that i can eat right now like egg drop soup.

Yes, and it does get better a cpl months after surgery. After surgery, its head hunger, that is the best way to put it. NO ONE, not even docs can prepare you for the after effects. Head Hunger is hard. You are used to being "drilled" to eat everything on your plate, or it will go to waste. Its hard still, at two years out, I have to remind myself, that it will NEVER go in. I miss a good ol' steak now, soft warm bread, and tomatos, pasta, rice, potaoes. I get my read meat fix, by eating venison, buffalo, or ground well hambuger. Soft warm bread, Toast til burnt, most like a cracker. Tomatoes ..is very little, not even ketchup, just doesnt work. Pasta, I can do one ounce, and thats it. Rice, no...sick as all get out. Gosh, I would love a bakes potato...but its too dense. Its hard when you crave salt and sweet ALOT! But you get through it one day at a time. But EVERYONE is different. My hubby, Will (bethin), can eat pasta, and more things than I can. My surgeon, cuts the nerve to the tummy, so you are never hungry again. I never feel hungry! If I am busy, out and about, I know its time to eat, when my sugar drops. But these are things, you adapt to and move forward with. Its not the end of the world, bc what you used to eat, you cant. Or what worked one day, doesnt the next. It can be HELL. But it is so worth it. Good luck with surgery, soon you will be on the losing side of the bench.  Need anything, just yell! Take care,

Thanks all. This does help a little. Of course we've all heard the saying "Nothing taste as good as thin feels". That's what I'm holding onto.  I appreciate all of your support. I really don't think I would have this surgery without the support of this board. Thanks alot. Penny

HI! I am 1 yr out.  I do not miss food at all!  I especially do not miss eating too much...which was a big problem.  I love my new body.  I now can eat most things...but didn't initially.  I really did miss food for a long time...I had alot of trouble progressing to solids and I still have difficulty getting enough solids in some days...but I can usually tolerate  a bite of whatever I really want...and yes, sometimes that choice is bad and I "pay for it" with pain, foamies, or dumping.  BUT, the "head hunger" is long gone and I hope I never miss eating too much agaiN!
