Need new PCP

Got home today after a wonderful Meet and Greet at Amigo's. Opened the mail to find a letter from my PCP saying that he will be leaving the practice in July. I just saw him this past Monday and he gave no indication that he was leaving. I have only been his patient for two years, but he really takes an interest in my aftercare following wls. He keeps me up with the blood work that I need and found that I was Vitamin D deficient. No one else tested that before him. There are 2 other physicians in the practice and they will be searching for one more to take my doctor's place. Changes are hard for me. Kit Kat brought the idea of changes this past week. Meeting a new doctor means building up a rapport and trust. Just had to vent  little, thanks for listening.

Good am Cindy, I do understand how you feel. My surgeon left her practice and although I'd had surgery and was post-op by a few years it still took me time to get used to the fact that she wasn't going to be the one I saw. Most are comfortable with a nut or nurse practitioner I was not at the time. It took me more than 3 years to find a surgeon I was comfortable with, 3 years or so to get used to her and now I'm a little more comfortable with seeing the nut/nurse practitioner but its not ideal for me. Change is inevitable and I don't care for it in certain situations. I look at my surgeon, docs etc as life partners in the fact that Dr. Martin didn't just rearrange my insides but we developed a very important relationship and its taken a bit of acceptance that others can aid me in my journey. Besides, I'm VERY proud of her (knowing her personal situation for moving) and wish her nothing but the best. She is one of those with the BEST bedside manner I have EVER had the pleasure of working with. She goes above and beyond what many docs/surgeons do and I hope that others in her new practice are just as touched by her sincerity and care. I know that you might be struggling with who to choose as your new surgeon. That's understandable but I hope you really meet with the others and feel them out. That is what worked well for me. The first practitioner I saw I was not impressed with. Very old school, very set in her ways and unchanging with regard to the newest information. She didn't work for me however, the next has and she's amazing. She's very intuitive and very adamant about informing patients of the latest and greatest information as well as working WITH my other docs to help my progress due to some health issues I've faced in the last 2 years. Cindy please know that I and others are here to chat with etc. Feel free to vent ANYTIME! All best!

Hi Kit Kat,    Thank you for the suppport. Actually, my family physician is leaving. My wls surgeon will remain. I have only been going to him for two years, but he has really taken an interest in the aftercare following the wls. He helps me to keep up with the blood work and the vitamin therapies. He discovered the vitamin D deficiency. We have a good doctor/patient rapport and I trust him. It takes time for all that to happen. Now I have to do it all over again. The practice is Christian oriented...they play Christian music in the waiting room and when you are put on hold. I LOVE THAT. My plan is to remain with the practice as the other doctors are very good. The nurses are terrific, too.     Hope that things went well with your daughter the other day. Hope that you are felling better, too. Take care. Cindy

I understand about changing - it takes a long time to build up a rapport with someone and it is hard to move on - but sometimes change is good....... I like my WLS surgeon very much and trust my new GP - my last one was just not any good but my previous one to him - she was wonderful and it is hard to feel the same rapport with anyone - I would so love to feel that comfortable again with a GP....... Good luck... Jackie

Hey there! :) Right, I understood it is your family physician and was just explaining how it felt to have my WLS surgeon leave. For me, that was scary as well because I feel the same as you we had such an amazing patient/doctor relationship that I struggled initially when she left. Its great the practice is Christian oriented and hopefully through prayer and meeting with the others you can find one that meets your needs. Things went a lot better than anticipated. Of course there was a lot of unknowns before her appointment and I for one like to be as prepared as possibly. We did some testing and we'll see what happens in a few weeks. Thanks so much! KK
