Do you think my surgeon is just sadistic?

I know it's tough, but you will get through this!  Feel free to vent your frustrations, anyone who has done a pre-op diet is there with you.  It will all make you stronger in the ned.  :)  HUGS!

Thanks everyone! (You all know I was joking about the sadistic thing, right? I don't actually think my surgeon is out to get me.... )

I was just so tired and cranky when I posted - I shouldn't post when I feel that way. It's like head hunger - you know how you know in your head you're not hungry, but you just really want something to eat? I know in my head that they're only trying to help me prepare for this major lifestyle change, but I feel cranky and angry about it anyway.

I think it's also hard because, although I don't mind people knowing about the surgery, this far out I'm not quite ready to tell everyone (like my grandparents, who will worry constantly), and it creates situations that I have to either avoid, tell people, or make up something. I've told my co-workers b/c they see I'm not eating at lunch, and I told my grandmother I wasn't feeling well and sit through lunch with them without eating. So those things are frustrating as well.

But no one - well, no one who knows, anyway - ever said this was going to be easy and I took that on when I decided to do this. And tomorrow is day 7 - halfway through.

Thanks for "listening"

Sarah

Good am Sarah, I know you are struggling with all this right now. Other replies have given you some tips and things to think about. I want to add that posting when you are happy, joyful, sad, tired, cranky etc is a GOOD thing. Please never, never feel like its NOT a good time to post. In fact, I discourage that whole heartedly. That has been an issue for MANY of us. We get it in our heads that we shouldn't post and reach out in our times of need, reassurance etc. Please know that we are here for the good, bad, ugly and everything in between. Everyday is not a bad day but sometimes things get us down and we HAVE to learn that we are not alone and we need others support and guidance. Feeling cranky is normal truly and its hard when we see the big picture and want to get there NOW but we've got all these hurdles to get through and it requires patience. Now, I for one am NOT great with having patience but I'm trying and that's what you are doing. TRYING ...you've got to make choices for yourself because this is about you and no one else. You've come so far and going back in my opinion isn't an option. Trust me when I say you'll look back at this and you'll realize that you are/have made the best choices for YOU and this will be a distant memory. Of course it doesn't seem like it, of course you are fighting with all this and you want to give up and give in but will you? Naw, I don't see it happening. Besides if everything was simple and easy I'd be bored to tears and that's just not kewl with me! All best!

My pre-op is similar to yours, (of course I'm only having to do it once). I have to admit it has been hard too. I'm half way there. I only want to say that I feel your pain. Stay strong and best wishes. Penny

Sarah, Sorry your having a hard time.  I also had Dr Elliott and the live shrinking diet is not new, I did it and lost 14#.  Dr said if I did not lose 10lbs he would not do surgery and made me come in and weight twice before surgery to make sure.  Like others said the liver needs to be as small as possiable.  I only had to do 1 wk liquid after surgery but I think RNY is differant.  As far as what you are suppose to eat from his book, he told me 2 protein shakes a day and a low cal dinner and that the list is just an example of what you could eat.  Dr Elliott can be tough but I do believe he is looking out for us.  I look at the liquid diet as a blessing, if I had to go from the way I use to eat to eating the way I should after surgery it would be hard but after a liquid diet the small amount of food your allow to eat seems like alot after no food plus weight loss to boot.  Good luck and if you need anything just send me a message.
