Do we need them?  What should it say?  Sorry if this has been posted before, but I'm still a "newbie" - thanks in advance - Lys

Hi Lys!!  Ok, donning my medic hat again.  Yes, a medic alert ID bracelet would be an excellent idea.  As to what it should say, I guess something like "gastric bypass surgery, (whatever date). "  To go along with that, I would recommend you carry something in writing that maps out who your doctor is, what medications you are currently taking, whom to contact in an emergency, etc.  I have one made up that I would be happy to share with anyone that's interested.  Speaking as a medic, this form is VERY helpful to us as we do our assessment of a patient in the field.  It's not unusual for us to be called out to a patient that is unresponsive with no family member around to tell us pertinent info.  I recommend you make several copies.  Personally, my husband & both sons keep a copy in their wallets.  I also have one under a magnet on the fridge, one in the glove box of both vehicles, one in my horse trailer, one in my purse.  At a Senior housing development, we know to go to the fridge & get their form out of the medicine bottle they keep in the butter section.  My form also includes insurance info, what foods & drugs I'm allergic to, my address, phone number & date of birth.  This was a very good question. Lys..thanks for asking.

Hugs!
Ann

We went over this at our support group meeting this month. We concluded that "yes" you need it. And that the bracelet and necklace were the most visible, compare to the anklet. I think the reason is something to do with a tube inserted into your mouth may go too far and damage your pouch. (????)

There has been a lot of contrversy over this on whether a medic will actually ever put a tube down your stomach in the field but I believe it is better to be safe than sorry and I do wear a Medic Alert braclet that has a number on the back of it for a medic or hospital to call and all my history and medications are right there for them to see. I always wear it. It is a matter of personal preference but I think I feel safer wearing one - no matter what anyone says... Jackie

Good am Lys, I personally do NOT wear a medic bracelet. However, like Ann and I'm sure others I've got my info ON me at all times. I do however, like the idea of Jackie's with a phone number in which all info is right there. Its something to consider even if one doesn't have any other health aliments as most folks are allergic to something with regard to meds. Don't apologize. There are no stupid questions just ones not asked! All best!

Totally agree - I wear one and only take it off when I absolutely have to.  In fact, I wear 2 of them when I work out.

My everyday bracelt has my name on  he front and ont he back it says: GASTRIC BYPASS NO BLIND NG TUBE NO INTUBATION NO NSAIDS

My workout bracelet is hot pink camoflauge - its tought looking haha - and it is made of nylon and velcos, perfect for sweat and water (it's water resistent) and inside has 2 plastic coated strip to write on - it has my docs name, hubby's name and cell phone number, and says GASTRIC BYPASS NO BLIND NG TUBE NO INTUBATION NO NSAIDS.  It has refelctive on the outside, which is perfect if I am out running and something happens.  Plus, having the extra strip, I was able to put my son's cell phone number and info when I was up at UKROPS without my hubby.  Just in case. There are many places you can purchase from.  I like Lauren's Hope - she has a great selection.  A little pricey, but a great selection. I highly recommend one, if not for everyday, defiantely one for working out.  Especially if you are outdoors - anything can happen.
