medical id bracelets
this is in response to the earlier post. i have chosen to post this way so that everyone can see.
speaking as a medic it is extremely important to have something for the emt's or er nurses / doctors to see.
i wear a bracelet but i also have a necklace. i have several bracelets. some are dressy with the charm on them and others are just silver or gold.
mine states:
rny gastric bypass
no blind ng tube
no nsaids
hypoglycemic
MUST CARRY WATER/SNACKS AT ALL TIMES
the last line allows me to carry water and snacks to places that would not normally permit me to do so (ie movies, theme parks, court rooms, etc.)
I know that there are some people that think this is too much or that they are not needed and we are each entitled to our own opinion. This is mine. Take it for what you want. I have been an emt for 15 years and I know the number of lives these have saved. Yes, the chances are slim to none that you will ever be given n saids or have an ng tube placed blindly in the field but this is my life...my health and I want to be prepared. I also carry cards with all the pertinent info on it and have my DH cell number in my cell directory under "ICE" (in case of emergency.

This is a GREAT post Tam! Could you enlighten us as to where you've purchased the necklace and bracelets?
All best!

I got most of my bracelets and my necklace at my jewelers, Steven's Jewelers here in Richmond. I also purchacsed one of them at Things Remembered and one from laurenshope.com. Things remembered charged almost as much as the bracelet to have it engraved. Stevens did it a a very nominal fee. Hope this helps and that people take it seriously!

They are very important . Case in fact . When I had my car accident , I had my bracelet on . They were able to go to my wallet , get my card out and read what they needed . I was unable to convey to them what my condition was .
When I go to the ER , all I have to do is show them my card , and I am done no need for explaination really .
I think everyone needs to be aware that accidents do happen, you will get sick and if you cannot get communicate with the EMT or ER staff , who will ??
There are a couple places you can get these .

Medical Cards can be made at :

And you will also want to as Tam said , put on there MUST STAY HYDRATED . Many take this for granted , but as a WLS patient this is for life .. and no one is going to take my water bottle away .. no one . I have challenged this at the airports and court houses .. and it works .. yea .. a little Rebel I am but this is MY LIFE .
Great Post Tam ..
