First, my date sounded very familiar to me.  I poundered over that date all day.  Then I finally figured it out.  It was my middle child's due date. LOL   So I get a call from the pulmonary spec. office.  I have moderate to severe sleep apenea.  Damn, the lady said I did pretty well.  I go in on May 10 to get fitted for my CPAP.  At least I found out and it will be benificial for me for after surgery and will hopefully decrese my risk.  a

Ah yes, cpap machines.  I've heard many success stories from folks that have used them.  I hope it works for you too.  Don't worry...it's doubtful that you will need it forever...as the weight comes off, so the apnea improves.  Yet another perk of wls!

Hugs!
Ann

Good am, I had a CPAP machine and used it before surgery and for a bit after surgery which yielded tremendous benefits. I no longer use one now as I've been told I don't have Sleep Apnea any longer. Its best to use it and become acclimated with it. They do help! All best!

Well, hopefully you won't have to wear it for very long.  Hopefully the weight coming off will helpin that area.

The CPAP is an adjustment to get used to, but, well worth it.  Make sure you bring it to the hospital when you have your surgery, you'll need to use it at night there.  I've had my cpap about a year, i saw my pulmonary doc on monday, he said when i lose 100 lbs they'll do another sleep study to see if i still need it - Good luck, you sound like you are doing great - Lys

I don't think you will need the CPAP for very long after surgery.   But at least you did find out and it's always better to be safe.  You'll do just fine.   Anna

I use a cpap.  Have them let you try on "the swift" nasal pillow style mask.   It is very comfortable and since it is not a full mask you don't feel as claustraphobic with it strapped to your face.  You'll know what I mean when they do your fitting.  Alot of the masks out there are very cumbersome.  Try and get the thing that feels the best.  And make sure they show you all the ways you can adjust the nose piece and head gear to get the snuggest fit.  You'll be sleeping better in no time.  The migraines I used to get were almost completely corrected by using my cpap.  I really do notice a difference, though don't be surprised it takes a bit to get used to it and for you to feel the difference.  I showed a gradual improvement in maybe 2-3 months time.  :)
