There will be one thing I will miss....

with having this surgery.  I think Tink post is great! I know as a pre op and going though this decision process, what kept me so long from going ahead, was my love of food.  I wanted to be able to still have my cake and eat it too. LOL But finally I looked at my children and looked at my life.  I need to do this for me and my family.   I have come to turns with the fact of no more of the "good stuff"  And being diagnosed with diabtis has really assisted that as well.  I am training myself to see food as fuel, not for my enjoyments (there is so much more out there to enjoy then food).  I have changed my eating habits since the dx and I find I feel better when I eat better.  I do enjoy healthy food. (I love ALL food)  I would rather have salmon, wild whole grain rice, and a salad then have pizza or pasta.  But there is one thing I will miss.  My Skinny Cinnamon Dolce Latte from starbucks.  I used to drink the iced white mocha and switched to the SCD latte after being diagnosed.  I even caved in and got me a iced WM one time and could not drink it because it was to sweet.  I enjoy my SCD on Friday morning.  It is so good.  But, I will have to so goodbye.  My life is more important then you.  Sorry starbucks you will not be getting my $4 after June 17.

BRAVO BABY  BRAVO . You get it !!  I too had Diabetes prior to WLS . OMG I loved food so much . I thought I was loosing my best friend.  But like you , I made a choice to live. And food was going to have to become something that sustained me and not comforted me .  I have found ways to have my Latte and drink it too . Divinchi SF syrups are some of the best substitutes for my coffee fix . They have all flavors.  I take my SF syrup, have some Decaf coffee , add some SF creamer and WALA .. there ya go. And for an added punch . Nectar has a Cappuchino Protein mix . I have tried it , and if you add a scoop to your coffee with the added syrups , it is a yummy treat and great for our Weightloss .  I am very proud of you . I see nothing but great days ahead for you. One I know you will get to see is if you are on Diabetes meds, guess what . The night of my surgery was the last time I ever had insulin. I am truly blessed as you will be too.  Keep in touch if you need anything .  Take care,  Tink

Bear with me....I'm Starbucks illiterate...only been there 2x ever! But they do make a sugar Free flavored syrups...DaVinci comes to mind. Can you make it a Skinny Fat free Sugar free decafe latte? You are really grasping the whole lifestyle change though! I am a firm believer in changing your behaviors Pre OP so that Post Op will be a bit smoother. I'm glad you have joined our family here on the Virginia Boards!

The Skinny Latte's is something they just came out with a couple of months ago.  It is made with Sugar free syrup.  It just has the shot of  esspresso.  I went on the website and got the nut info on the SCDL.  Here is what it says

Made with Starbucks® signature Espresso Roast combined with our sugar-free Cinnamon Dolce syrup and freshly steamed non-fat milk. Same tasty cinnamon, butter and brown sugar flavors as our regular Cinnamon Dolce Latte, but with fewer calories. Since I will not be able to drink the Venti anymore here it is ont he short 8oz

Saying goodbye to something that has been such a HUGE part of my life is hard.  And even harder when you have given up something and not seen any good results from your sacrifice.  Makes you feel like you are doing the right things for the wrong reasons or for no reasons at all, for that matter.  And until my dr appt the other day, I was feeling that way about that pre op diet.  While, yes, I did not follow it perfectly at the beginning, for the first couple days but it was still  HUGE and significant change from what I had been consuming.  I went from eating 4 - 5 meals a day of anything I wanted,  sodas all day and probably over 2500 calories a day easily to eating 2 shakes a day, 1 healthy meal, and less than 900 calories.  Why wasn't I seeing some kind of results or feeling like I was accomplishing something.  Then I got on the dr's scale.  I had lost 7 1/2 lbs.  I was succeeding, even if I didn't see it right away.  So now I know that I can and will be able to say goodbye to more things that I have LOVED to eat and it will all be ok.  I will not eat the bad things, and I won't suffer.  While I may not enjoy the taste of tons of spaghetti noodles and mounds of marinara sauce and pieces of garlic bread, I will be able to stop taking 30+ pills a day.  I will be able to stop giving myself 4 shots a day and even more important....  I WILL BE ABLE TO CONTINUE TO LIVE...  and live a more active life, and be a better mother to my son!!!  So to the bad foods, the comfort foods, the foods I and so many others have turned too when we were sad, nervous, scared or just emotional...  I BID MY FOND FAREWELLS.  AND SAY HELLO TO A BETTER HEALTHIER LIFE.  A BETTER HEALTHIER THERESA!!! Thanks to MammaDuck & Nat for their posts...

Definitely a great way to look at it.  You are looking at the behaviors and tackling them.  Very impressed over here.  However I think you can get that the way you need it.  Try it decaf, sugar free, skinny (skim milk) with some splenda/equal to sweeten it up, no cream on top.  Or as Tink suggested, make your own.  Save that $4 for some new clothes.  :)

Keep in mind the calories, carbs and sugars are coming from the FF milk - that's it. You'll have to wait until the dr OKs coffee and until you can get in all your protein and water. Really the only thing you may have to worry about longer term is whether you'll become lactose intolerant.  I was at first and it was killing me thinking I'd have no more espresso drinks!  Jen can tell you I keep getting my Starbucks cup refilled! I also calculated the amount of money I would spend at Starbucks if I had the amount of espresso I wanted and I figured a semi-auto espresso maker would pay for itself in a year so I endulged in that instead.  My kitchen counter is now lined with SF DaVinci syrup! I'm enjoying readiing your posts as you get closer to the losers bench.  Thanks for posting!
