Ty and Try Again......

As we know, exercise is extremely important for weightloss success.  It's up there with getting in proper nutrition (protein) and hydration (water).  But, for many, exercise is a challenge because....well....it can be very confusing, challenging,  and people just do not like it.  Be honest...how many prefer to sit on the couch exercising with the remote after a long day at work.... So, where do we begin?  Begin with something that you might enjoy doing.  I mean...why do something that you dislike.  It becomes exercsie when you do that .   So, if you think that you might like to walk outdoors, and you are physically able to do so, go for it.  Start out slowly and work up your endurance.  If you are physically unable to do so, find a moderation to that, such as lifting and lowering your feet/legs as if walking, or start in a swimming pool - it's much better on the joints. If walking isn't your thing, what about dancing?  No one says you have to take a formal dance class.  Just turn on some great music and start bopping around. So, what if that form of activity you selected did not work out for you?  Don’t give up after the first try. Sometimes, it takes two, three, or more tries before you know whether you like it. Sometimes, trying something new can be intimidating, so go with a more experienced friend the first few times if you can.  Once you’re comfortable, you can try the activity by yourself , or you can be social with it, by finding a group (or even a buddy) with the same interests or start a group of your own.  Like what several of us do on the VA board with running and walking.  If you want to learn to be a runner, check out the local running shops.  They often have group runs and even walks.  Many YMCA's have groups that get together to run, walk, workout, swim, hike, etc.  Check into them.  One reason I joined the dance studio was to add the social elements into my workouts, becasue I found that after working out by myself for 2 years that something was lacking....the girl talk.  And that alone has improved my workouts. Remember — there are so many different options out there to be physically active that at least one of them will be for you!  So....try and try again....................
