With this Band - I thee ........ Exercise
I am working with a young lady as a one on one , and she told me she had never seen an exercise band. This simple contraption has a way of assiting you in burning calories and toning up your arms.
If you are just starting out in your journey and wondering , what in the world will I do to exercise. Here is a great tool for you .
You can do it sitting , standing or however you want .
For Me , I stand on the middle and do so many types of arm curls. This will get you pumping I promise .
I had one lady 2 years ago I met in Lexington at an OH convention. She was wheel chair bound. She was so distraught, surgery seemed so far away . and she had no clue how she was ever going to get out of that chair to work out . I showed her the band and from what I know today , she used it , and is doing amazing on her journey. So wheel chair or floor . Do not let any excuse enter your mind about exercise . You must do it .
If you are interested, this band can be purchased at your Walmart .For around 6 Bucks How cheap is that for a piece of exercise equipment . I am almost 4 years out , and I panic if I cannot get to mine daily .
Enjoy !

When I started working with Sgt. Bryan (my trainer), one of the first things he advised me to do was to get one of those big exercise balls and those bands so that I could do strength training at home. So I did. I can't say that as of yet I've been great about doing them, but I'm working on it :) (Theresa if you want to try mine and see if you like them before you buy some you're welcome to) I bought a set that has short ones and long ones, and several different thicknesses - the thicker they are, the harder (it's like adding more weight).
oh Sarah, you're a doll. thanks so much. i will definitely take you up on that. Whats yrou plans this weekend? Cam has a game on Friday & Saturday and I HAVE TO GO, since his next 2 after that are the night of my surgery and then the day after I come home. Dr says I can go but to just judge it on how tired I am. I hate not going since his "father" never goes... but thats a whole other post. haha... thanks for letting me try them... watch... imma be the one that needs a video or instructions on how to use them. hahaha
Natalie,
The bands are great and personally I love them and they have along with swimming helped me minimise the bat whing effect after loosing so much weight ! Usually they come with some instructions but you can also get DVD's to learn how to work with them! I use the bands alot in the exercise class sponsored by Inova Fair Oaks Hospital at the hospital. I have noticed too that the personal trainers for that class, get the new people in the classes that are just able to start exercising after surgery started ,working with the bands. I don't know if you are famaliar but for those within proximity of Fair Oaks hospital that have had GBPsurgery or the Band, can attend a strength training class every Tuesday night at the hospital at 6:30 in one of the side conference rooms. Two personal trainers teach the class and it is becoming more popular all the time and expanding. The cost is just $75.00 for 12 sessions, 2 are free to see if you like it! We work with the bands, medicine balls, inflatable balls, we exercise on mats and do cardio too. It's all geard to one's personal ability level and it's really fun too! Some of the surgeons are now are suggesting that their patients start the class before their surgery to give them a good start and preview of what they can do after surgery to exercise. This class really does help me to stay on track. I go to it as well as swimming and working out with machines at the gym and long dog walks/runs. Between all of these I'm faking my metabolism into continuously burning. This class and type of exercising is great for everyone because it's geared by the trainers within your ability level. Everyone starts of slowly and gets better at everything and more confident each time. Anyone interested in the On Track program can contact Inova Fair Oaks Hospital Bariatric Department.
Tink, you are so right the bands and resistance training really are a great way to go!
I'm so there with you! If Walmart shopping were a sport, I'd have the gold medal for walking around aimlessly up and down every isle LOOKING for stuff I don't need. HA HA. I swear they SEE ME COMING with my big "S" on my forehead for SUCKKA! :P

I have the full set of thse bands and I use then for travel in case the hotel's gym does not have a weight secton....
But I should caution everyone - please read the instructions before you use them as you can get muscle injuries if they are not used correctly. A firiend of mine put her shoulder out trying to do a move that she thought would work for her. Also the bands come in different thicknesses to give stronger and weaker workouts so use the one that fis your level of strength.
Used correctly they are great!
