Make Commercials Count

Ok...how many of us forgo our workouts because we just do not have time during "typical" hours and after 800 pm, they interfer with our favorite tv shows?  I know that I have been guilty of that myself.  Especially since I love tv and movies. Well, it's time that we drop that remote and use the tv commercials to our advantage.  Did you know that the average set of tv commercials is a little over 3 minutes long?  There is ALOT that you can do in 3 minutes. If you are able, you can do jumping jacks, walk in place, jog in place, knee lifts/kicks, ab crunches, push ups, leg lifts, lunges, squats, boxing moves such as upper cuts, jabs, speed punches. If you are unable to perform any of the above due to mobility issues, grab your weights or bands (Natalie had a great post last week about the bands) and use them.  If you do not have weights, use soup cans or milk jugs filled with water.  They make great weights and you can customize them to your needs. Stretching is also perfect to do during commercials.  Just make sure that you wam up the body so you are not stretching cold muscles, as this could cause more damage than good. There is much research that indicates that exercising in brief intervals has cumulative benefits, and is definately better than doing nothing.  And if you are concerned with how you may look....don't be.  Just close the curtains and you can even get your family involved, by seeing who can do the most during each commercial break. Always consult a physician before starting any exercise routine.

Actually it was discussed in a class I am currently taking, and I thought what a WONDERFUL idea.  So, I did a little reasearch to figure out what could be done and put the Sporty Jill spin on it. Wa-La!
