More than likely you will take much more to the hospital than you will need =) The best thing I took was Chapstick... That was a life saver. I brought my cpap machine, a robe to cover up my tushy while I was walking around in the hospital. I brought slippers, and some magazines. I brought my mom and my boyfriend =) and that is all. I wore pajama pants and a t-shirt in and I wore those same clothes out of the hospital. The only thing I wish I had was a pillow for the car ride home to hold against my stomach when we hit bumps. Really most everything you need the hospital can give you. Most people don't feel like doing a ton of reading or anything after surgery, but I did because morphine makes me hyper, so magazines and laptops and all go unused for many people

Sounds like wise advice.  Travel light but take slippers you can walk in without slipping or tripping over,..but also go on relatively easy. Ditto on the chapstick, I like carmax.  And the pillow home GREAT idea,...but someone can bring that when they come to pick you up.  Enjoy the drugs and be nice and the nurses will be nice back. Don't be afraid to ask questions, espcially from the doctors nor be afraid to tell them if you are in pain or discomfort.  Ice to suck on is good for keeping your mouth moist too and not in violation of the post-op consumption rules.  Enjoy the attention, it isn't going to be that way when you get home.

I just got out of the hospital on Wed and I agree with the above. I overpacked. Robe, chapstick and extra undies were needed for me. Also, my cell phone was available because it was long distance to call my hubby.

I would like to talk to.If you can send me an e-mail with your story. How much did you weight before surgery? How much do you weight now 1week out? What type of health conditions did you have before surgery? How much weight do you need to lose? Was your family supportive? Did anyone not want you to have surgery? Stuff little stuff like that or anything you think I should know and be prepared for. Hello, Just sent you a long email. PLEASE keep us posted on your upcoming surgery. And if there is anything else I can answer for you, please let me know. Of course, there are many others on here that are further out. Alot of them are at a retreat this weekend that I would have loved to attended...maybe next time. Best wishes, Penny

Awesome!  Your surgery is just around the corner!  :)  Other than your basic toiletries, I would suggest a lightweight robe for when you do your walking.  Those hospital gowns aren't very kind, especially on the backside.  :)  I would check with your surgeons office to get a list of what would be helpful for you to have.  BEST OF LUCK!
