newbie here

I am new here and am interested in having WLS. I am currently disabled due to numerous medical conditions most of which are related to my weight.  I am in the middle of appeals process for disability, and thus am currently insured by Virginia Medicaid. Has anyone here in VA have any knowledge or previous experience in trying to get WLS approved on VA medicaid? I have tried unsuccessfully to get answers from local office of DSS, left messages no return calls. Tried calling state office of medicaid and keep getting voicemail answering service and not a "real" person to ask my questions. Any feedback from any of you here will be most graciously appreciated.

Welcome to the board. I'm not exactly sure how to find out, but this question has been asked before, so I'm sure someone will have an answer for you. In the meantime, try this search and see if it helps http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/VA/a,messageboard/action,r eplies/board_id,4847/cat_id,4447/topic_id,3462802/

Hey there.  I am a recipient of both Medicare & Medicaid.  I would recommend finding a surgeon's office and contacting their bariatric coordinator.  They would definitely be able to answer most of your questions and if there is something that they can not answer, I am sure they could direct you to the appropriate place to find answers.  My surgeons office takes both Medicaid & Medicare.  It is Commonwealth Surgeons and they are located in Richmond.  Hope this helps.

Wanted to say hello and welcome you to our VA Board and you are welcome to read my profile as there is alot of information there. Also there has been some good information given and I also say you will need to contact the surgeons themselves as well as the hospitals for locations. ANd Im not sure about your area but Im afraid you might only find  that @ UVA. Good  luck in you journey and we are all here for you to ask anything you need to ask.
