just some questions & concerns

Today is a week since my surgery.  I have lost a bit of weight.  Enough for people to be noticing it in my face and enough to go down an entire pants size.  I am consuming the water intake specified by my surgeon, between 64-100 ounces and am able to eat cream soups (pureed) and mashed potatoes along with the full liquid diet.  The problem is...  I know I am not getting in the required protein, 50-60 grams.  Not because I can't stomach it.  I truly do not dislike the carnation instant breakfasts but am finding that there is just not enough time in the day to be consuming all that, especially on days when I have to take a pain pill or 2 or 3 and find myself napping.  I am wanting any and all suggestions.  I go back to the dr next week and for the first time, I am actually looking forward to going to the dr.  I can not wait to get on that scale!

They sell alot of powdered proteins at Target (where I got mine),  my dr said to only take "Whey protein", and do about 2 shakes, to add up to 50 grams of protein by shakes per day,. hope that helps - Lys

As you know, I'm pre-op so may know nothing but it just occurred to me - I wonder if you could add protein powder to the soup or the potatoes?  That way you get more protein but not more food... I'm pulling for ya girl! Congrats on the loss so far :)

It is.  My sister in law, who btw is being extra nice, got me some free samples ordered today of Unjury from my doctors office.  So hopefully, the unflavored will do the trick.  Thanks for everything!

Hi Theresa, I'm drinking the liquid whey or profect drinks. They are only 3 ounces (easy to get in) and have either 26 or 42 grams of protein. You can order them online. Also, GNC carries them now and they are about the same price...$3.25 for the 42 grams. I know its a little pricey, but we won't have to drink them forever. Oh, and they taste fruity. Penny

I just want to put this out there for anyone who has read your post.  I'm not sure if you meant it the way it sounded.  With gastric bypass, you may have to have protein supplements for the rest of your life.  True, you will be able to get alot of protein in from food once you are at that stage in your progression, but I would think it very hard to eat all your protein.  Especially if you kick up your exercising or are preparing for plastics or any other surgeries down the road (to promote healing).  I suppose everyone is different, but I have never been able to eat my surgeon suggested daily protein intake.  I do take in a good amount with milk, yogurt, cheese and meat, but still have to supplement with one shake or bullet a day.  I've even been contemplating adding that extra shake back in to maximize my protein intake.  :)
