just some questions & concerns

Penny- I just want to add my 2 cents on the bullets. I was using them exclusively for awhile and when I did my labs my "protein transfers" were low. Not shockingly low, or in danger of harm low, but low. I was told that the bullets probably do not provide enough of the right kinds of proteins. SO...I was encouraged to replace at least of of the servings with another kind of protein supplement to my daily intake (unjury was my favorite at the time).  SO..I've stopped using the bullets all together unless I'm in a super pinch...but I've found others that seem to not drop my "protein transfers" and that I can tolerate (taste-wise).  Just be sure your doctor is montioring your labs........had I not been diligent about my labs I may not have even found out that I was getting low.

Wow, that's interesting. I did not know there was any difference. I think I need to check this out. Thanks for your advice, Penny

It is so funny for years I am sure we all have dreaded to go the doctor and get on the scale and also have the doctor say you need to lose weight. It is so great that you are losing the weight now and when you go to see the doctor you are excited to see them. Add a protein drink in to get more protein that  also counts towards your fluid count. I can't wait to be on the losing beach hopefully soon. Only a couple more weeks and I go to my Pre-opp appt.  it seems like it is taking a long time to get here too. I love seeing how well all of the people that have just had surgery. Everyone is doing so good. Kudos to you all.  Hugs, Gwen

Theresa sounds like you are doing well.  Getting some unflavored protein powders to add to your soups & potatoes are a good suggestion.  Basically you just have to keep trying.  It is unusual for anyone to really get it all in during the beginning.  Maybe try to focus more on the protein & less on the water until you are able to get it down more.  I know in the beginning for me, I was getting the protein and not the water & was so worried but the nut. & nurse said it was okay to just keep sipping & working it in.  Once the pain gets better & you aren't napping it will get easier.

Unjury has one that is supposed to be really good.  Go to unjury.com and I believe they have some samples you can get.  If you aren't already at soft/pureed foods, when you do get to that stage, you will have so many more options for getting the protein.

Theresa, I've used Any Whey unflavored protein powder as my main source of protein supplement since my surgery. You can find it at GNC and other places. I add it to cottage cheese, yogurt even to ground turkey. You can make decaf coffee smoothies with it and some people even mix a little into salad dressings to get an extra protein boost. Try your best to get all your protein in those first few weeks but I just wanted to let you know that it is very, very hard to do so. There were many days I just couldn't force myself to get it all in. You do the best you can and it will get easier! CeCe
