I guess it was meant to be!
So I'm all pumped up now about doing the Women's Challenge and the fact that I worked out on the treadmill yesterday, despite the lousy weather and lazy mood I was in.
So today I took things a couple of steps further...
I hired my son Brian to be my personal trainer. He has been asking me about this for a while and I finally decided to do it for a few reasons. First, it gives me a chance to spend time with him in a positive way. Second, it keeps me accountable. Third, it helps him to feel like he is working with me to keep me healthy and motivated. And last, it acknowledges that he has a skill (exercising) that he has been working on at school and has some knowledge about it that he can share with me. So I agreed to pay him $5 an hour for a minimum of 4 hours a week.
We started today and it was fun. We walked around "the big loop" in our neighborhood (decent number of hills) in 24 minutes. Then we spent the rest of the hour with me doing strengh training exercises on the Total Gym and Ab Lounger. It was a good workout and I could tell that he enjoyed being the "expert". Then we did some cool down stretches and agreed to do it again tomorrow.
The other thing that happened was sort of ironic and amusing. When I was at the Ashburn event, I used the exercise room at the hotel on Friday. I tried the eliptical machine (never been on one) and could have sworn it was broken because the darn thing wouldn't move for me no matter how much I tried! I lasted 3 minutes, then gave up. I remember telling Jill that she had to show me how to use it.
Well, as soon as I came back from Ashburn, I found out that a neighbor was selling her brand new eliptical machine. I walked away with it for $100, including a huge exercise mat to put underneath it. We brought it home tonight and it's now in my bedroom facing the television. When I tried this one, it was much easier to use (meaning I could actually petal on it!). So I think it was meant to be that I learn the eliptical sooner rather than later!
I'm excited. I'm going to post my progress on the Women's Challenge now and I'm actually looking forward to working out with Brian tomorrow. Stranger things have happened, but not when it comes to me and exercise!
