Well Ladies, I finally got the date and it will be on May30 at Fairfax Hosp on Gallows road. I really think I picked the wrong surgeon tho as he is charging me 3 K up front and my ins co. said he could do that and if I changed surgeons, then I would have to start all over from day 1 with the new surgeon. Well, I ain't going to do dat. I'll bite the bullet and come up with the 3 K as he requested. I'm sure this is for any items that the ins doesn't pay full price for. Me thinks that Elariny is money hungry. What say you???? Jim

Well, Jim... Congrats on getting a date. Dianna and I tried to brainstorm to figure out a way not to use Elariny (it concerns me that he's the one that did your now-screwed-up band) but we could not come up with a way to do it. I'm sorry he's charging you that huge program fee -- I'm sure that you've heard by now that my dad went to a seminar there, and Dianna ushered him out halfway through when that came up. A surgeon really should be more concerned with the quality of care for his patients, and THEN with his bottom line.  We'd also tried to think of another area surgeon who would take someone your age, but we kind of came up empty on that one, too. I also didn't know that you'd be forced to go back to square one if you changed surgeon's now -- you've already done all the preop stuff. I'm sure it will work out anyhow -- but I'm still sorry you have to pay so much. For what it's worth, the surgery is WORTH a million times that, but it's the principle, I guess. Good luck! Julie

The tough part of WLS is not the first year, it's those that follow.

right on Julie...When he did my band, he didn't charge that fee. I just learned about it the other day when I went in to see him after the ins co had Ok'd the surgery. Yeah, I do have my age working against me so I should feel lucky he is doing it. Most other surgeons don't like to do patients over 60 I heard. I thought we were going to the support mtn last night but Diana finked out on me so I told her I would make the next one maybe..Well got to go back to work Julie so take care hon and be talking atcha...Jim

You should have gone anyhow -- I went. That particular one is at the Sully police station/government center (where those poor officers were shot last year or the year before). I hadn't been in a while, but there were a lot of people there, big age range, and there was ONE guy there who was complaining about needing another man to identify with (not that he minded the women, as I know you don't!), so I think you should help him out and show up next month.  It'll be on the 9th... you'll be well on your way by then.

Wow! I was shocked to read your post.  I have always heard such wonderful things about Elariny.  I work with 3 people who had WLS by him and LOVED HIM and had no problems.  I'm sorry to hear that your experience hasn't been as good.  Hopefully, this time will be better.
