Hello everyone,  I am totally depressed, I have consulted with my Dr. for WLS, he suggested gastric bypass, but before that is to take place, I had to talk to a nut, see a physc and have a sleep study, all that has happen,  another requirement is to lose 39lbs, well that's the toughest requirement, usually if and when i diet i would lose weight really fast, this time it's soooo slow, i have been trying to work on losing the 39lbs since he told me March 14th, the first two weeks i lost about 8-10 llbs, then i started have muscle spams in my back, my pcp prescribed naproxen,  me not knowing at the time that it make you gain weight, so then i was back up 5 lbs, after finding out abuot the naproxen, i told my pcp and he changed my meds, so from that point on i have only lost 15lbs,  I am still having the back pain and have not been able to exercise, I am dieting faithfully and don't know what else to do,  I know i retain fluid and i take a fluid pill daily and have been for years, i can't understand what's going on with my body.  My doctor says i can't have WLS until i lose the required amount of weight and at this point i think it will never happen. I am so fustrated and discouraged.  Do anyone have any suggestions,  I have tried all types of diets and it seems nothing is working,  just this past weekend i bought a bike and i have been riding it  daily, still no weight loss.  This has never happen to me before, i have always been able to lose weight, just could never keep it off. Please do not give up .  I am sure you want the surgery.  You may need to just re-look at your lifestyle. It may be something as simple as removing a food choice or changing up your exercise.  You are saying that you are unable to exercise due to pain, are you able to get out to walk ? Walking in itself can be a great motabolism buster.  Sometimes our bodies get used to our schedules, and will throw you into slow down mode.  You may need to make an appointment withe the Nut to see if she or he can make any suggestions as well .  Best wishes to you . Just keep at it and I am sure with determination you can get there .  Tink

Don't give up!!!!!  Talking to the nut. is a good suggestion.  Perhaps looking into some other type of diet, something like Atkins that is low carb, high protein.  It would help you prepare for the after surgery diet & for most people helps the weight to drop fast.  Increasing your water, cutting out other types of fluids may help too.  Are there other medications that you are taking that might be contributing to the struggle?  We are here for you.

I have been on the low carb diet, that's the one that usally work when all others fail,  that's how i lost the 15 lbs, but now nothing.  I am on other medications, but i have been on them for a while, i'm trying to figure out what i'm doing different then all the other times,  I just think that my body is changing, as well as i'm getting older and then my metabolism is just shot due to all the yo-yo dieting ive been doing all my life.

See another doc!  My doc didn't require a pre-surgery weight loss.  I mean, if you could lose it on your own, you wouldn't need surgery, now would you? It can be well worth the travel to get the right doctor, and the right surgery.  Ample hugs ...

Oh, I so feel your pain! Sometimes we just stall out - even when doing all the right things. But it's especially frustrating in your case! I know that I am losing weight pre-op with the help of a nutritionist, trainer, doctor AND "life coach" all working together. It's a lot, but it's help me accountable and made me do it.

But if I read and did my math right, you're down around 20 pounds already, which is great! And halfway there! So don't give up now. We're all pulling for you!

I'm assuming that you have to lose weight also before your surgery, what hospital does your doctor practice out of. I have been thinking that maybe its just not my time, things happen for a reason,  i guess it will happen in Gods time.

Hi there - I am sorry that you are feeling so down.  But you are already half way there. A couple of things I would check with - is it your doctor that is asking for the weight loss pre-surgery or is it your insurance that requires it?  Sometimes the insurance does - mine didn't but I was just expected not to get any heavier .... And please do not give up!!  - If you really want this there is a few pounds keeping you from it. Sometimes a test is a good way of seeing how serious you are about getting the surgery.  And if you want the surgery badly enough you won't walk away at the first hurdle.......  and that is all this is - just another hurdle...... The thing with exercise is that you need to change it up and do different things or your body will get used to it.... so cycle one day and walk the next - maybe go swimming the day after etc - just to keep it confused ;-)) Also please do go and see a nutritionist who can see what you are eating and advise you... Remember you are only 24lbs away from qualifying..you can do this and we will help you! Take care Jackie
