How did I become so clumsy after surgery?
Most of you know I had a graft put in my knee to replace the torn acl ligament in January. Well after bypass surgery last September I seem to have no coordination. At 8:30am this morning I was halfway down the 2 story stairwell when my knee locked up/gave way whateva happened next thing I remember was waking up at the bottom of the stairs in pain. Didn't even get to drink my morning espresso as it exploded on the way down. I hit my head very hard but refuse to go to the ER by myself for hours. I landed several times on the surgery knee which immediately started swelling and wouldn't hardly let me walk.
Hubby had worked all night and couldn't safely drive me to my surgeon in Williamsburg so somehow I stayed conscience long enough to get there and back. They did x-rays, stuck a large needle in my knee cap to check the fluid for blood (was clear!) and then gave my knee a cortisone shot. Didn't help and the pain was still nasty so they scheduled me for an MRI on Monday a few hours after we are supposed to close on our new house. I was given some pain meds which make me woozy but it isn't helping the pain. Then of course I am feeling embarrassed obviously and guilty for feeling like I have let clients down for dramatically slowing down my work pace today.
Ok now that I am done venting the question I have is "Do many people develop a loss of coordination after this surgery? I have now fallen several times since October. Today was the worst...of course I am freaking out because I LOVE my upstairs office where I don't have constant distraction and it is a large office. I was sternly told this morning by co-workers that A) I shouldn't be wearing heels to be cute (they think I actually tripped and not believing my knee issue. Just wait till they see the MRI. B) Out of love and concern she said she was moving my office downstairs. I don't want that. Not sure if now I'm considered a liability then I might not have a choice.
I know I am always MIA here so I understand if you choose not to respond.
Autumn so sorry to here about your fall and pain. I am totally clumsy though I have not fallen, I do alot of staggering like Ive been drinking and I dont drink. I have brought this up to several of my DR's now mind you I am on a few sedative medicines like Topamax, and Neurontin on a daily bases and they seem to think the balance problem is what there calling my issue comes from the meds. but will go away well its been going on for a year and it hasnt gone anywhere, so I have to be very careful w/ stairs and I get woozin feelings in my head all the time not fun at all. So dont know if your on any new meds or not if so or not you might have them take a look at what your taking. Good luck and hope they find the issues soon for you, and your pain goes away too.

I am so glad you are OK!!! It sounds like you took an awful fall...how scary. I haven't experienced the falling, etc., luckily, but since I am a klutz to begin with, I guess I am not a good gauge! I hope everything's okay...be careful...and keep us posted on how you are doing! Oh, and congrats on the new home! :)
Not sure about coordination, but I have absolutely no balance. Don't know whether it's age, weight loss, or my knee. I fell on it again this week and it's not a good thing. Anywho....NEW HOUSE????!!!!!! Give details! And where's your new avatar? I wanna see the new YOU! BTW - Do you want your clothes back or should I pass them on? I'll be at Dr Clark's Monday p.m. and could meet you there or leave them if you'll be by to pick them up.

Clicking on that link will show you basic stats and pics of our new home. It was slowly built over the last 1.5 years. Fabulous log cabin, with a central vacuum, 5 acres within room to build a mother in law suite. I'll have to throw a BBQ/ open house party. It is so relaxing out there!!!
Clothes they were sizes 14? Are they summer clothes, I can't remember. With gas prices so high you might as well them them away :(
