Caffeine and AchievOne

Now that I have FINALLY found a protein supplement that I can keep down and actually enjoy, AchievOne, I'm realizing that the caffeine might adversely affect my 3 week post-op system. If I'm taking my supplements as prescribed, should I have a problem? I know that caffeine affects the absorption of calcium.
Is any caffeine at all only for others that are farther post-op then me?
I really like the AchievOnes and don't want to give them up. I'll never get all my protein if I do!
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You should be fine, just increase your water as much as you can, too, to flu**** out of your system.  They are making a caffienne free Achieve One and coming out with new flavors.  They are projected to be on the market about October or November.  I drink them every day, too!

Thank you so much! Will do, increase the water. Glad to hear they'll be coming out with a caffeine free one soon.

Hi Genevieve,

I have Dr. Moazzez too!!!  I haven't had my surgery yet, but from how I understand it caffeine is a dehydrant, sooo, I second Tammy's advice, just up your water intake.  I think I read one time awhile ago that for ever 12 oz caffinated soda you should drink another glass of water to counter balance the caffeine.  I met with Karen, last week and the general idea I got from her was that they rather you get your protein in even if its not the 100% whey isolate they require.  I had bought a whey blend, but she approved it.  If you are really concerned I would call your Nut.

Great job on your weight loss so far.  I can't wait to join you all on the loser's bench!!!!

Hello,

My name is Rita and I am 5 months post op from Lap Band.  Laura and Karen both have stated that caffeine is a negative not just for the absorption but for other issues. I would reach out to the dietians at Fair Oaks hospital and ask them about this form of protein.  In addition is this the best kind of protein with the least sugars.  You want to get your protein and set yourself up for a successful journey.

Have you tried the UNJURY brand in chocolate with skim milk. This is very good and a very good source of high quality protein.

Please feel free to e-mail , I am also a patient of Dr. Mo.

AchievOnes contains milk protein isolate, which to my understanding is the same thing as whey protein isolate. I'm not too worried about the sugar since it has no sugar added and has only 5 grams of carbs.
I've tried unujury...no dice for me. Between the consistency and that "protein taste" I can't keep it down. It makes me extremely nauseous and that is no way to go through your way.
I've uppped the water, it should be good.

Actually, just trying to be helpful here, but they are not the same thing...... whey protein contains milk protein, but milk protein is roughly 20 % whey protein and 80% casein. Casein is a good protein, but is more slowly utilized. The ASMBS has recommended whey protein specifically at its recent annual meeting in July in Washington.

And as always Genevieve, you need to follow  nwhat your doctor and nutrituionist says .......... just be an educated consumer! I do what my doctor says until I see something that contradicts what they tell me and then I go back and discuss that with them............. they are patient with me lol! After all, it is MY body we are talking about - not theirs!

Good luck

I am not sure about the caffiene issue.  I think it is still controversal and I still drink caffiene.  I am not a fanatic and mainly only get it in my AcheiveOne drinks.  I only have one a day and then have Nectar for the rest.  I will still go to Starbucks and get my skinny CDL on rare occasions.  I am leary about the possible diruetic effect and on precaution up my water intake.  The extra water can only help.  My Nut is aware I drink this and had no problems with me having it.  I take my calcium at night before I go to bed so it has no effects on it.
