Caffeine and AchievOne

My own personal opinion is that Caffeine is not good for us therefore I don't take it.

We were told by our nutritionist, that to counter the effects of caffeine, we need to drink twice as much water - one glass to equal the caffeine drink and one to count as liquid  - also - not to count caffeinated drinks as part of our liquids.

Additionally it has come to light that caffeine can have other effects on our bodies which are not good for us. It is a stimulant too so it does not suppress our appetites - it makes us hungrier.

And with Achieve One they actually ADD more caffeine into the coffee and I always wondered why they do that?

I am hoping the caffeine free Achieve Ones will be good.

Many people on this board drink Achieve Ones and I am not slamming any of them - just for me, personally, I would not touch them.....

Well without the AchievOne, I wouldn't ge getting any protein at all, save what I would be getting from the pureed foods. Which is really next to nothing since it's so little food. I'll take the increased water any day instead of little to no protein.
Thanks for the help!
I am also looking forward to the decaf version, Tam said it should be out this fall.

Be prepared to be told no by your nut tomorrow.  I too have Dr. Mo, and did my pre-op nutrition classes at Fair Oaks.  The nutrutionists all stressed no caffeine especially in the first year.  I know this contradicts what most people here do, but the Fair Oaks nutritionists reasoning is that caffeine can cause ulcers, especially in new post ops (we're not even supposed to have decaf coffee since it still has a minimal amount of caffeine).

Giving up caffeine has been the hardest part to sticking with the plan so far for me.  When I really need a Starbucks fix, I get steamed skim milk with a sugar free syrup.  No caffeine jolt, but it does taste pretty good and I get some protein from the milk.

Hey Genevieve,

First and foremost, talk with your doc/nut and you'll be told NO CAFFEINE initially. However, I can say MINE allows for coffee and leaded (regular) 2 cups per day (I surpass this by TONS but am learning to cut back slowly but surely).

Tammy's mentioned that AchievOne IS coming out with decaf flavors this Fall and the ones I've tasted are really very good. There will be an announcement made so hang in there. I personally drink the AchievOne's with caffeine 1-2 a day but I'm also 5 1/2 years post-op.

I would advise you uping your "good" fluids intake (water, Crystal Light etc). Just MY opinion!

All best!
