Hi Brandi!!

I understand where you are coming from.  Like you, I have a drink maybe 1-2 times a year, if that often even!!  I can tell you from my experience, it's easy to get plastered from a very little bit of alcohol.  I'm talking, I was sliding down the wall saying "the room is spinning" to my friend who was standing beside me.  Now, granted, this was during HOT weather and after flying all day to get to TX and I'd had very little to eat....but the next day - and after food - it still didn't take much.

All that said to say....enjoy your night out, but do like Tam suggested and maybe share a drink with someone.  Chances are you won't be able to fini**** anyway!!  Oh...and sip SLOWLY!!!!

Hi Lys--

You are not alone in your post. EVERY single doctor who preforms this surgery recommends the same thing.

But what do they know. They're only doctors.

BTW--Your avatar looks great! Keep up the good work!

I had weight loss surgery. I did it the easy way.

Brandi,
The fact is that you can get plastered on just one drink now as a gastric bypass patient.
You are dumping when you are sweaty and sickly. It's just a slightly milder form of it.

I'm with Tam,,no shots. No fruity drinks, no beer, nothing carbonated. Doesn't leave you much does it? How about a glass of wine on lots of ice? If you are going to go ahead and drink while out, load up on water ahead of time.Perhaps the effects will not be as bad. When I  do have wine, I have a small juice glass filled only half way with wine, all the way with ice. Then I drink it over an hour or more.

I say go out with friends have fun and don't let alcohol become the focus of your night out!

Hey Brandi!  Good question.  Of course people have mentioned the risks of transfer addictions and I am sure you are well aware of it.  It can be really hard to notice at first that you have transferred the addiction and very hard to deal with so do be careful.  The dumping can be a big issues (sweaty & sickly are signs) and you don't want to have to go through that out somewhere.  Vodka is one of the only drinks that doesn't have a big sugar content.  Have know lots of people who mix it with crystal light.  Perhaps a shot, and a glass of water along with an extra glass.  Mix your crystal light in, add some of the vodka but definitely split it, don't put the whole shot in.  Or give the rest to someone else.  The carbonation in beer is bad about upsetting the pouch.  With our rearranged systems the alcohol absorbs quicker so you do have the likely hood of getting drunk quicker on less and it can damage our bodies quicker.  I was not a big drinker before but do occassionally want a drink now.  Definitely feel the affects a lot sooner.  Sip slowly.  It is a lot of wasted calories so compensate for that too.  Drink extra water.  All of these reasons are why the dr.'s caution us about drinking & say to wait.

You are aware of the dangers but as a adult have the choice to make your own decision.  A try at home where you can be sick if need be is probably a good idea.  Although you could always be the DD and enjoy the time out but not worry about the drinking.
